Wow, that looks crazy. I wasn't online during that period but I noticed a lot of obvious spam in other forums as well.
There are recently a lot of those spam-mails spreading emotet. They are copying business' communication pretty well, trying to look like bills from coworkers or your boss. That's pretty scary.

Just to let you know:
The last days I couldn't see any Spam here. Whatever you have changed, it seems to work pretty well. :)

Maybe something like this can help:
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=1491305

I assume, the amount of first posts by regular users is significant lower then all the SPAM?
And in addition:
Delete/Prevent all posts with an URL in the title.

Yes, our automated spam prevention tools work only on a part of the incoming spam, unfortunately quite a bit gets through and we have to take care of it manually. This is particularly an issue over weekend. We keep trying to find a better way to fight it...

They don't care...

Search the real postings between SPAM since less then 12 hours:

Is this getting worse the past few weeks or is it just my imagination?

Right I understand now, I wasn't sure if Mods just viewed and reported or had delete powers that's all.

Thanks.

Most spam visible to users is from registered users. Mods already roam the forum to remove spam posts.

I tend to agree with MMuser here, maybe the vetting of posts can be minimised this way because it does take a tiny bit of effort to set up an account, and no problem if you stay logged in or set to auto. It also saves on pages load times and bandwidth sizes I assume.

IMHO its pretty easy to spot these Spam posts so i stay away from them as best I can but do the MOD's etc have the power to delete when they see them or is it just Admins.

Just a though but how about a couple of dedicated MOD's or regular users to check every few hours or so?

There generally is no need to report as we'll come across them anyway. It's fine balance between preventing spam and making it too much work to post as a user.

Just have a look at the dozens of reports in the last days

We have several layers of protection, starting from captcha, then there are some blacklists tested and finally posts can be reported/deleted manually. It seems to me to be working pretty well recently, do you really see that much spam?
