Re: Files on SD are not added to library.

Update

I got a new phone, but the problems still persist.

Samsung xcoverpro
Android 11
256gb SD card
Mma pro 1.4.4.0952

When I first installed mma, the music showed up. But when I started adding music to the SD card, it didn't show no matter how much I told it to rescan the library.

So I got creative. I had the music in a folder labeled 'music' & it was a main folder on the SD card. I copied the music out of the folder & into a temp folder. I deleted the mma library listing for that folder as well as the folder itself on the SD card. I then rescaned the library in mma. Then I made a new folder & named is 'music' & moved all the music files back into it. I added the folder to the mma library & then told it to rescan.

This time it found the new music, but it didn't find any of the old music. So it was a positive that it found the new music, but a negative that now it couldn't find the old music. So I played around some more.

I found that if I made a new folder with a unique name never used before, & moved all of my music into that folder then mma would scan it & find my music.

But mma has folder memory & will not rescan files in a folder it has previous knowledge of.

However I have noticed that there are some folders that mma still will not add to the library, regardless of all this.

Now I have my music all categorized in the following format.
Main folder/artist/albumn/musicfile
So there are still some 'artist' folders that mma will not parse & scan into the library & it is the same folders each time.

Sync speed would depend on connection speed (wifi slow, USB faster, USB-C fastest/high end device) and if any Auto-Conversion are required.

While i am all for trying something new, my main concern is that i've got over 3Tb on my MMW & i'm only using 45Gb on my MMA (or at least would be if it read my SD). So my concern would be on that sync time, but i'll just have to give it a go to find out how long it will take.

& while yes it is hard to hear that both MMW & MMA are still TBD on release dates, at least now i know not to expect anything. Which is better than not knowing. So thanXX for that. =)

The problem lies with Android Media Scanner which is something MediaMonkey can't fix. This is why it will be abandoned for MMA 2, but that is a major rewrite, not a small fix. Neither MMW 5 nor MMA 2 have a release date, instead they'll be released when ready, which unfortunately isn't great to hear if you're really waiting for it. As MMA 2 relies on features included in MMW 5 (not in MMW 4) it is set to be released after MMW 5 is finished (at minimum at a much more polished point). Both MMW 5 and MMA 2 are major rewrites, and that unfortunately takes time.

With MMA 1 it's best to sync MMW to MMA as this allows MediaMonkey to bypass the Android Media Scanner for the most part as MMW updates MMA directly with files and tag information.

Actually you have never said this to me, so i think that you are mistaking this conversation with a different one. & i'm guessing that you meant MMW 5.

So this fix is waiting for MMA 2, MMA 2 is waiting for MMW 5, so what's the release date for MMW 5? Or is that still TBD?

As i said, it's been over 5 years now with no forward progress. & now you have just added a new level of wait to things. So how much longer are we really talking?

Hi,
As I already stated number of times MMA 2.0 can be released only after MM5 gets stable release. MMA 2.0 advanced features can't be tested with MM4.x and earlier.

I'm aware of that, but the main question is WHEN. It's been over 5 years now, since this problem was reported & there is still no fix. It's been slated for version 2 for years now, but when is version 2 going to be released? Is there a scheduled release date? Or is it still TBD?

If it's already been over 5 years, will i have to wait another 5 to see a fix?

I totally understand priorities, & that this issues has been pushed down the list so that new features can be implemented to keep up with the market. But if this fix is expected to go out with version 2, i have to be honest, it does not seem like version 2 is coming out any time soon with the lack of forward movement on this issue.

& i apologize if this comes off as harsh, rude, or inconsiderate. It's not meant that way, it's just frustration over having had to wait SO long.

Unfortunately, the Android Media Scanner still does not work.

Sorry martin, i just got your message. Installing the latest build now (build 858)

"1)Go to MMA file browser
2)Go to the folder which is included in the library
3)Play some track
4)Send me debug log"

Now when you say go to the folder that's included in the library, are you asking me to go to my music folder on my sd card & play a music file from there?

Update:

Log ID R7S9P2ZTK6

I used the "folders" file browser to navigate to my "Music" folder on my SD card, which is the only folder listed in my "Library folders" in MMA. I then selected a file & played it, & then sent the logs as you requested.

I'll give that a try & see if they've got a fix for the AMS. But in reality it'd be better if mma had it's own & didn't have to rely on the device.

I'd contact the device manufacturer as this would seem to be a standard feature on all devices, but yours.

& if there was a way to fix the "setting" on the device, I'd be happy to try, but I don't think there's anything on the device that could be changed.

I've been waiting for mma 2.0 for over 4 years now. It's really getting frustrating.

I'm not aware of others reporting this exact issue and the problem lies somewhere in the device (settings?) that is not allowing the Android Media Scanner to pick up the files in the first place. This is required for MediaMonkey to work. The fact that you have 3 of the same device experiencing this can mean the device has this issue as they're the same device.

There is no release date for MMA 2.0.
