Agreed - some form of "playlist sort" sort would be great to keep things in order, and probably an "allow duplicates" option too, in case the user wants multiple playlists combined, and they happen to share a track, and the person wants that track played twice...

That assumption however is not correct. :(

I would love an option to 'sort by source playlist' in an autoplaylist.

Here is a thing you can try, it's based on the assumption that when using the criteria playlists that they're added in order of name.

First create the different playlists you need to create your sequence. This can be done with AutoPlaylists referencing your already established playlists set to sort random and limited to x minutes. Name them in order you want them to played (ie. 1, 2, 3 or something like that). Now create a new AutoPlaylist and set criteria to those playlists. This might result in what you're looking for.

Thanks for posts - quite right, I can't take my computer with me when I run. ;)

(mind you, I have a garmin forerunner 305 and a blackberry with me when I run, so more computing power than existed pre-whatever, but the computer is still a no-go for now).

I ended up with a day off yesterday, and decided to download Visual Basic .NET 2010 Express Edition and see what I could do - had fun writing a program to modify Windows Media Player playlists (WMP does sync playlists better than MediaMonkey on my blackberry). Must play around with MediaMonkey scripts sometime.

Thanks,

Sarah

oh s... i completely missed that they were wanting to sync it?

i was thinking they had a treadmill and was doing this in the cool air of the basement or indoor gym.

thanks for the catch on how to sync it i don't think you can set multiple lists of child lists like you mentioned
unless it is able to be created on the portable device's system.?

for sync'in they'd have to do what they mentioned in the second post and make playlists of the wanted songs that
would work on their device and manualy switch to them when they wanted to change speeds.

however if a programer then you can figure out how to put monkey on your portable drive and have some sort of power supply for the passport drive you could then run monkey on that drive but it would still need some sort of timer to change its playlists automaticly.. and a screen to see the monkey's gui.

Except that you don't bring your computer with you generally when you're out for a run. So... it's potentially possible that you could still use auto playlists of various lengths (that's a gold feature right? It's been forever since I've had the free version...), and then potentially you could combine them in another autoplaylist to make one playlist you could sync that would have say a 30 minute (ish) block of fast stuff, then a 1 minute (ish) block of slow, then another 30 minute (ish) block of fast, etc. - using the condition that the tracks in later playlists are NOT in earlier playlists in order to not have duplicates...

That's assuming that MediaMonkey does something predictable when creating an autoplaylist where the conditions are "IS in 'Playlist1' or is in 'Playlist2' or is in 'Playlist3'" such that it puts the content of playlist 1 first, then playlist 2, then playlist 3... at least that's the only way I could think of generating a SYNCABLE playlist to do what you want...

Even then, not sure if you'd always be able to get those short time periods that you want as you'd need to have a lot of short tracks that fit your criteria?

no you use the auto playlists

right click on the node called playlists in the directory of mediamonkey.
you will see options to pick auto or normal playlist.

pick auto. this will work best if you use mediamonkey gold version there are more settings then just the basic auto list.
of the free mediamonkey.

now in the advanced auto list you pick your rules to have it set up a playlist.
example

genere equal rock,
sort by random a to z
number of songs blank
time length to play songs 30 minutes.

then click the okay button

now you have to use peke's script which you will add the name of the playlist you just made, in to that script.

you now have two choices. make an icon shortcut to that script file. or make a task scheduler task job for it in window's task scheduler.
the short cut will allow you to manualy start monkey and then manualy start that playlist.

the task scheduler will allow you to start mediamonkey with a task job. then have a the playlist script be started by the task job for it one to five minutes after you start monkey. and the use other script to close monkey the close script is in the thread for peke's windows scheduler scipt. but you should change the playlist to a second one with no songs in it before you close monkey with that close script. because it is a hard close and might make the song's file lose data on closing.

but that is all you need to do monkey will then start and then the music lists plays for your workout and then monkey closes out after your work out you do nothing but turn on the computer before you the time you want to work out. of course you need to set up the items and type the name of the list and the rules in to the list.
but that is done only once.

the windows scheduler will run monkey and peke's script for you automaticly, you better make sure you want to work out at the same time every day becauase it has no way of last minute time changes. (other then not turning on the computer)

i've been changing playlists like this since he made the script years ago. (nonstop on my jukebox.) runs like a swiss clock on the time all the time. all day.

but use of the windows task scheduler and mediamonkey combo is the only way to make it work on timers. and peke's script allows you to set up the connection between task scheduler and mediamonkey. :D

use of the autorating script from big berny make it rate the songs for me also.
use of the equalizer preset switching script keeps the songs sounding good too.

Just to clarify - I need to create a playlist with all the songs listed on it, so that I can sync that when I go for my run. When I look at the Windows Scheduler version, I'm not sure if that will handle creating 1 playlist.

Thanks for the response!

use peke's windows scheduler script.

make auto playlists in mediamonkey using the mediamonkey gold version will give you more options in the auto playlist.
like setting a time limit for the number of songs for it to pick.

you can then make as many different playlists for different things that you want.

and use peke's script to time them for starting when you want to start them.

monkey should be started at one to five minutes before you start the playlists cause the songs won't start playing if you start monkey
the same time you start the playlist.

you just want to do the same thing as broadcasting song genere playlists and changing them at different times through out the day
only you want to have exersize lists being played at different times.

the main thing in both ways of thinking is

changing playlists to what you want when you want.

and pekes script is made for doing just that. :)

read through the thread for his script you will see just what to do with it and how me and some others use it.

his script is in the all scripts thread in the help with addons room here at the forum. going down the list on the first page of that thread you will find the link to his first version of the script. the new version is below in one of my posts on that page of the thread. 8) .

oh this is the link to my post with the info for his version 2 in it. http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 182#p25182

yes its pekes script. his thread was locked but some how got unlocked in the forum room so i added the link for him in this post. it makes it easier to find his thread that way then diving through the thousand or so pages of that forum room. :D

Can I do this? Creating alternating playlist for intervals

by hollasa » Sat Aug 14, 2010 12:04 pm

I'm not sure if it's possible to do this or not with MediaMonkey. What I would like to do is to create some playlists for running intervals, so running for X amount of time and walking for Y amount of time, and have MM put together the playlists automatically.

My idea is that I'd like to specify somewhere that I'd like to run for 8 minutes, say, and then walk for 1 minute, and that would be plus or minus a certain amount of time. Then MediaMonkey would go pick songs that add up in length to 8 minutes plus or minus something, put them in a playlist, then pick a walking song of 1 minutes plus or minus something, and then continue for certain number or length.

I would think it would be simplest to have suitable running songs pre-selected on one playlist, and then suitable walking songs on another playlist.

Any ideas, tips, or methods of already doing this around?

Thanks!
