For those looking for an alternative on Linux I endorse an player called AMAROK.
There is a version for Windows and Mac too, for those who want to test it.
Amarok has many features in similar to MediaMonkey.

The problem is that it is tied into Windows, thus significant work needs to be done to achieve this. This means there is a commitment to make this happen, but no firm commitment on when this will happen. With MediaMonkey 4 the developers started with changing the code so it is more cross-platform compatible laying the foundation. However there isn't a target date/version that this will finally be achieved.

As a mediamonkey Gold customer will I have to ask for a refund to get this software to work in linux? Could the developers at least keep us in the loop on the progress, milestones, and issues that occur. I don't understand why this can be so difficult. You don't even have to make a version for every distro, even if you make it for Ubuntu that will be fine as long as you don't use distro specific libraries. Or you can make a general purpose executable and include the libraries that you've used, just have the user add the location to their library path. Could we please get updates other than, "Its in the works"?

That Knowledgebase "solution" was created over 4 years ago...I know requests have been made before that time as well. I keep seeing that article used as a response to inquiries regarding Linux support which feels like a run-around. I know development can take some time, especially if using a low-level language like C or C++ (Please!) but let's not keep the community completely in the dark.

I get it...When treading through unfamiliar territories it's best not to set expectations or give a dead-line but the expectation was set and we need to know, from an official MM developer, that it's still in progress and coming along. Ideally a road-map of some kind or rough progress estimate would be nice. It's in MM's best interest to migrate to cross-platform so let's hear some reassurance please.

I've known for years that Linux support was in the pipe-line (I don't consider Wine linux support - Talking native here) so I've intentionally avoided any potential relationships with alternate players. I can't justify this much longer.

I would also like to see MediaMonkey native on linux. But I also understand that it takes alot of resources to make this happen. If the developers would work with the linux users then I'm sure we can work something out.

I'm runing Suse 12
I remember having had problems starting MM from the wine menu too.
What worked was: to navigate through my ~/.wine folders and start the MediaMonkey (non-skinned).exe directly from there.

Meanwhile I'm running it in a VirtualBox WinXP virtual machine, but that's not the best "Linux only" set up .....

OK, so it might be me ... there is probably something I do wrong here.

I've DL the latest version of MM,
I'm executing it through Wine,
And nothing.

Can anyone give me a hand ?
I'm runing Suse 12

Thks,
Eric

Thks a lot for the link,
I've tried it on a Win XP VirtualBox virtual machine and it works fine, but that's not the point. I'd like to have my gold MM to work on Linux in native so I don't have to set up MS widow just for that.

I've tried to run the Monkey on wine (Suse 12,2) but it doesn't work :(

Thks,
Eric

+1

MediaMonkey is one of the few apps keeping me tied to Windows.
