Duplicates

Rusty,

Thanks for the help on my problem. It will give me a couple of options until you can improve the already well done MM that I now own the lifetime gold.

Just for future ideas you may want to look at Wizetech advanced MP3 catalog pro 3.07. They have done some nice things with that software package as well. I use both just for the added features and speed of doing what is needed to keep 19000+ files organized.

Thanks

Search for duplicate tracks

There are 2 ways that I can think of accomplishing this, though neither is ideal:

First select the CD in the My Computer node and click <insert> to add the CD to the library. Then:
a) Go the the Files to Edit | Duplicates node and note any files from that particular album that appear as duplicates. If any of the songs on the Masterpieces album appear, then you'll know which ones to avoid ripping. This isn't great, though, since the Duplicates node shows _all_ duplicates in your collection :-(

or

b) Select a track from the album and right-click Find More From Same Artist. Any duplicates that are on the Masterpieces album will show up in the list. Then just select the ones that you want to rip. After you're done, you can delete the Album from the Library. This approach works a bit better except that:
-if you have a hundred songs by the same artist, it'll take a bit of time to locate the ones that you want to rip.
-if the songs are on a various artists album this approach won't work

The real solution is probably to allow quick searches by multiple titles. e.g. user selects ten titles, right-clicks Find More from Same Title, and then the search node is populated with a search for Song A or Song B or Song C, etc.

I'm adding this as a feature enhancement to the to do list.

Sorry rusty I miss-worded that last post. Just songs of the Masterpieces CD that I don't already have. Not Greatest hits. Greatest hits was already I the library.

Duplicates

Rusty, Thanks for the response.

Let me try to explain my question a different way.

I have a CD that I want to ripp. Before I ripp it I want to know what songs that I already have from other albums will be dupicates. Not just duplicates of that CD that I want to ripp.

For instance in my library I already have Bob Dylan's Greatest hits. Now I want to add the Masterpieces CD but I don't want to add any duplicate songs. Just songs off the Greatest Hits album that I don't aleady have in my library from other albums. See alot of my albums in my library now are missing songs on purpose to avoid duplicates. In the past I almost at one point was close to just tagging with Artist and song title only. Just to avoid duplicates. If there is different versions of a song you can always add that to the title. Can you tell that I hate duplicates?

Virtual CD question

If I understand your question correctly, you _can_ add a CD into the library (so that it appears in the Locations node), and then only save (rip) selected tracks to the Virtual CD.

That would allow you to see:
a) the entire CD
b) the subset of albums from the CD that have been ripped into your collection

Just found this software today. So far the best.

What I need help on is this:
I have been sorting by Artist, Album, Trk#, Title. and still want to do that. In the past when I would buy a CD to put on the drive I would only put the songs that I don't already have from any other albums (ie best of and original) then sell the album back to the used cd store. With this program can Virtual CD keep track of what songs I already have and tell me which ones I don't have when Ripping? Or is it limited to just duplicates from that album instead of artist. This Virtual CD seems limited and complicated. Or is it just me?
