That will work! thanks for the tip.

So I guess making the 'The' a truly ignored prefix during a letter search, would be a finer point in the great scheme of things. Good to air it out.

Or as mentioned above type more than one letter. For example if you wish to go to Take That, just type ta and you will be there. Only with artist starting with the like Thelma Houston would require more than 2 typed characters.

OK more time now with the collection.

Enabling the (Ignore Prefix .... The)
sorts my collection such that ie Beatles and The Beatles are grouped together. This is desireable.
Not enabling the (Ignore Prefix)
sorts my collection literally so I lose the nice grouping feature.

So I can give up grouping The with the non The's (or retag ...) or live with the annoyance of sorting where The is taken into account when the letter T is entered.

That would be expected as artists starting with The will now be listed under T.

Well I do not think this is how it is supposed to work but .....

Under Tools | Options | Appearance
I checked the "ignore prefix ..."
to OFF

And now The is ignored.

It works as I hoped it would.

Lowlander and any others if you would please try this to confirm it might be there is an odd minor bug in the settings.

cheers, jake

Actually it doesn't have to do with tagging as your tags remain untouched. MediaMonkey just modifies how the artists appear sorted in the Artist node.

To workaround the issue you might want to type more letters of the artist your looking for.

Yes, this is the annoyance that I believe has always been in MM.
Seems as if the setting under Appearance (very odd place to put something to do with tagging) does not work.

You mean that when you're at the top of the Artist node and type T it would go to Beatles, The instead of going to the T part of the Artist node?

That I can reproduce and would seem like an issue to me.

Thank you Lowlander.

Yes I have this enabled. I recall going over this once before but to be sure I changed my entry of 'the' to 'The'.
Restarted MM.
Same thing.
The search when I touch letter T, stops at each instance of 'The'.

I really hope for a solution to this.

cheers, jake

"the" in artist - skews scrolling [#6484]

by Jake Ames » Thu Sep 16, 2010 12:57 pm

Hi, apologies if this has been answered in the past. I searched but it is tough to get the right verbiage into the search criteria so after half an hour of trying to search and manually scrolling the help forum I thought best to post my question.

My collection is now close to 50,000 tracks and MM really handles this well, covering most of my music management needs. There is an annoyance however that I seem to not to be able to work around.

When I have opened a node, say ARTIST, then touch T to go to all artists starting with letter T, THE gets in the way. Fair enough, The starts with a 'T' and MM knows to ignore 'The' in the artist / albumartist name as far as listing. But this particular nuance has me beat. It is probably something simple and I'll have to question my ancestry after I find out the answer but ... at the moment I have to manually scroll down to where my "T's" start as opposed to the very nice and fast search on a simple typed first letter.

Is there a way for me to tell MM to ignore THE when I want to scroll my Artists or Album Artists?

Thanks in advance,
jake
