I'd say downloading album art really falls in to the realm of personal preference. Everyone has their own way of doing it (or not doing it) and would probably view any other way as inferior and impractical.
Personally, I download and assign album art manually for the most part, to keep it all consistent. Depending on embedded or included album art with purchased tracks or albums ends of being a mess in the long run with some being too low res, not included, or so high res it takes as much space as the album itself.
