For the record, I managed to solve the problem by deleting the MediaMonkey folder on the SD card. Sync is running now but it seems as if even the play count/last play date was updated (I expected to lose that data when clearing cache/local data and MediaMonkey folder)

I have been using MM on Ubuntu with WINE for over half a year now, using my old DB with a custom Skin (so it looks decent), Wifi Synch also works (although the profile was created on Windows originally). There's some minor bugs but there's workarounds.
Still hoping for a native Linux version.
