I'm with "guest" (Peter) - seems to me that you can already do this. Plus, specially for track numbers, there is an included script to automatically add sequential track numbers. Don't remember what it's called by heart anymore but I know it's there. So I voted "no"- not because it would be a bad fe...

Hmmm, some interesting ideas there. Re 1): An even better idea would be an option to report only the selected songs. *How* these get selected is up to the user then (get them from a playlist, from an artist, a genre, a year... endless possibilities) Re 2): This is already possible. Simply add stars ...

New MP3 eating trojan: W32.Deletemusic

Story is here.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one on this forum for whom such an attack would be an absolute horror scenario!!

Backup, backup, backup people. On EXTERNAL media.
And then backup some more...

For mainstream or at least anglophonic music, I mostly go with allmusic.com. I label EACH song I have with it's own genre, which I will usually pick from the selection of styles allmusic offers for that artist. If however my guts tell me otherwise, I'll put in what genre *I* think fits best. Sometim...

First off, I never managed to get DFX to work satisfactorily with mediamonkey. It always stays open in its own window and tends to make MM crash. Plus, IMO it's hardly worth the $$. I use the Jammix plugin for winamp instead (head over to winamp.com, you'll find it). It's freeware, too! Anyway, most...

Anamon : An interesting thought re: file sharing. However, I *think* that most if not all file sharing applications are aware of metadata and routinely disregard that information when calculating checksums. I know Shareaza does. eg, AFAIK it works like this: - Users A, B and C share the same song b...

I follow the standard painstakingly defined on Musicbrainz, see here . I have music in many different languages and capitalize the tags following that language's rule. I assign a language to each song in one of my custom fields - the language is always the language of the TITLE, even if the song its...

I got the '40' BPM value too. Actually, I think that this is the LOWEST value MM will write to the field. When I ran Mixmeister over my collection, I consciouly tried to bypass my classical music becuase I keep all movements in one big file with CUE sheets (and what's the point of getting BPM for a ...

Couldn't agree more with you about the Yahoo takeover. I sunk over $70 into MMJB right after version 10 came out (current version + lifetime upgrades) and am still kicking myself for it. That was in 2004. Since then - NOTHING. No updates of any consequence. No bugfixes. No answers to any questions o...

Yeah I guess Teknojnky's solution is the only possible workaround so far but boy, what a pain! Unfortunately I don't have any solution to propose. I am now just 100% migrated and converted to media monkey, hoping that it will remain a great program and that one day, an as yet unidentified brave soul...

Hi Tom_Green, I gonna assume you're talking about MP3 files with ID3v2 tags. The following only applies to that case! In a nutshell, the problem is that as unbelievable as it sounds, there are AFAIK no two media managers that map/use the ID3 tags in exactly the same manner! I did a rather extensive ...

Welcome to Mediamonkey, you have seen the light! You're in exactly the same spot as I was about 1 1/2 years ago. First the bad news: there is currently no way to import some of the MMJB fields. In particular the 'biography' field has no equivalent in mediamonkey. But since MM never overwrites any ta...

What you want to do is not possible with media monkey.
The auto tagger is ALBUM-based.

Your best bet would be to try MUsicbrainz Picard tagger, it can help you group your songs into albums. Then fire up the Monkey again and tag each of these albums individually.
