Re: Generating genre from folders
This is a great forum and MM a great software with only a few problems. My main problem is that I found no way to import the Genre information located in a path to MM automatically. My folder structure: Music/Genre/Artist-Album/Artist-Tracks. The Genre column in MM is empty and I do not want to ent...

Re: Generating genre from folders
The best file structure is the one that works best for you . For me, I like to be able to easily find an album, especially when I am updating my music collection, and I have ripped a flac copy to replace a dubious mp3 copy. I have two main folders, one for FLAC and the other MP3. Then they, in turn,...

Re: Copied Playlists to MicroSD - Many Problems
Hi Peke, the reason I asked was that many people incorrectly use the term "playlist" when they are actually talking about their music files. That is, they talk about copying a playlist to a device, when what they really did was copy a group of files to the device.

Re: Generating genre from folders
OK, this is my last post on the matter too, but to try and clear it up... It's cool. I didn't mean you had to stop. I just didn't want you to get worked up about it like some people with impatience issues. I get frustrated sometimes, but I'm pretty patient; if the other person is too. Anyway...

Re: Copied Playlists to MicroSD - Many Problems
Are you talking about playlists, which are only text files listing the music files to be played, or are you talking about syncing the actual music files. It seems like you have a terminology confusion. A SD card with only playlists on it has nothing to play, you need the actual music files (mp3, fla...

Re: Generating genre from folders
That won't matter, one step and all his files will have the genre tag the same as the genre folder they are in... Well then, in a multiple genre situation, I guess I still don't get how pasting in a single genre, like "rock", and then just changing it to \<Genre>\, before accounting for a...

The laughing face... umm I always thought that meant in good humour.. No worries. Re. "not coming across multiple genres" His structure Is "Music\Genre\...." If he goes to the tree and opens "Music", he can click on the "all" node and all files with re...

Re: Generating genre from folders
Also, I wanted to show the OP that Auto Tag from Filename did work, after this statement.

Re: Generating genre from folders
Bob_m_54, I understand the general concept. I've done it to hundreds of files using RegExp Find and Replace with preset, something like "assign folder level of path", that works regardless of genre variation. I indicated it would seem to work if the genres are the same. I just din't follo...

Re: Generating genre from folders
With your support I found the solution. Why complicated, if there is a very simple way...but I am a NEWBIE. It is possible to sort the tracks via the information (computer nodes) in what folders the tracks a stored (Music, location of storage). So it is a matter of minutes to change the Genre infor...

Re: Generating genre from folders
The way I read it, he has his files stored in the directory structure as stated in the OP ie. I got what he "said". I'm just not sure if I follow the solution as being the most efficient way or, in the case of "multiple" genres , would even work to assign the genre from its prop...

Short answer; no it doesn't change file tags when scanning your library.

Re: Generating genre from folders
Interesting. I'm not sure I follow. 1. If you want to use the filename and it doesn't contain the Genre, it won't work. 2. Are you trying to add the "genre" where the folder has it and the Tag field does not, but the selection you are working with at any given time is all the same genre? ...
