Why it should be Album Artist and not Artist?

Maybe you could use "Artists with <ID:1> files or less (One-hit wonders)" and just change <Artist|...> node to <Album Artist|...>.

I doubt that MM4 is the reason for such behavior, especially since it "worked fine for years and then in the last 2 or 3 months or so it has become a major issue." In my experience, there are only two reasons why MM could suddenly start behaving badly: a broken database or broken settings ...

What happens when you choose "Play in MediaMonkey" and it doesn't work? Is that file appears in Now Playing panel at all? Is its color gray? Are you getting such behavior during regular access to NAS or only after waking it up?
