I forgot where the option to turn off the email notifications for topic replies is.

It's in the User Control Panel (top left of screen) and then the Board Preferences tab.

Actually I think it's found under Overview > Manage subscriptions.

I'm curious why you did this. Too much emails? You go on vacation? Your spouse warns that you spend too much time on the computer?

Something that prevents the topics to be auto-added to my watch-list ?

Yes I did.

It seems like those are the only two places where you would be notified of replies. Maybe it takes time for the change to take effect? (really don't know otherwise!)

Well I didn't get any new topic reply notification in my email inbox since Eyal's one.
So I guess it's working now.
