What is the best way to add files that might already exist?

Post by nzdreamer55 »

I accidently duplicated a lot of my music (not all) and crupted some of my music where it use to be. I am rebuilding my library again, but wondered if there is a way to compare a song to what is in my library before adding it. It I have it then it was a duplicate and I can erase it, but if it isn't then I can add it. Is there a fast way to do this?

Thanks for the help

Fastest way i know is just add all then use mm's duplicate finder in the files to edit node on his tree. 8)

Thanks. That is a good way to do it. How do you sort out stuff that you want to keep that are duplicates. I have a lot of singles that have the same song as the album that I want to keep. Is there a way to have media monkey show duplicates when comparing files in from 2 locations that way if it is in the same parent folder then it is likely a single and an album but if it is in a different folder from the parent then it is likely a duplicate file that can be removed?

Mm will show all duppy's in the library and it shows all the pathways to the files, you just need to listen to them each to see what is best one or one that is not messed up and keep it then right click one you dont want and send it to a new playlist called remove these, so you can delete it later. That way you can go through the whole list first.
