[SOLVED] MM Video file library list view?

Post by Rednroll »

I've been using MM for quite some time for organizing my audio music files. I have some music video files which could use some organization in regards to file names, and their associated metadata. I figured I would use the master of all organization programs MM, since it added video file support but so far I have been struggling when attempting to manage video files for what seemed like simple organization tasks with audio music files.

The 1st and most obvious thing I'm struggling with, is finding a way to get video files which have been added to the library to be displayed in a list view, instead of the default tile/thumbnail view. The thumbnail view makes it difficult for me to select groups of video files and simultaneously edit their metadata.

Here's how it displays video files in mM (Tile/Thumbnail view):

However, what I want in the library view, is how they are displayed in the File Browser View, like this.

Just change the View from the View menu to Show details.

Thank you!

I have one more question for now. In the library there is a "Video" node and a "Music Video" node. For the life of me, I can't figure out how MM determines the differences between them. So currently when I right click and select "Add/Scan files to the library" under the Video Node, MM identifies all my video files which happen to all be Music videos. However, when I do the same under the Music Video node, only a few videos get added to the library under this node. I have gone into the "File Types..." and selected all video file formats under both nodes. When I look at the files, I can't figure out how MM is determining the differences so I can make them all show up under the Music Video node.

Hi,
Unfortunately Video classification any type is much harder than in Music files as they usually either miss or have incorrect Metadata (tags), so MediaMonkey have bit little space on how to classify them. The result unfortunately is that most Music Videos ends in Videos :(

In order to rectify that in MM5 we came to a different approach where you as user can define mainly what type you assume as default for selected folder and MM5 will assume default type. As result MM5 algorithm parameters are much better and determination of correct type, associated data with it is much much more accurate.

To conclude the best way to rectify your case in MMW is to do Select Videos -> Properties -> Type change to Music video and press OK.

You can also check MM5 Alpha in its corresponding forum Topic. If needed I'll be glad to explain more.

Thank you Peke! The "Type" drop down was exactly what I was looking for and had overlooked it since I never had to use it for music files previously.

Hi,
I agree, many of us never needed it.

That is why we changed that in MM5 in order to be more obvious.
