Creative Touch 2 and Playlists

Post by nynaevelan »

Hi:

I am having trouble getting my new Creative Touch 2 to show playlists. Does anyone who have a Touch 2 know what the settings should be in order to have them visible on the player? They show up when I browse from Windows Explorer but not when I try to browse them on the player.

If anyone is interested I could not get MM to sync the playlists and have them playable on the device, I ended up using Doubletwist.

We would need to know more about the device, like what interface is it connected through, where playlists should be located, etc.

I am not sure about what interface but the tracks and playlists should go to the \Music\ directory. The double twist program has them going to the \Music\artist\album\artist - title.xxx.

But when you open the playlist they are listed as: Artist\album\artist - title.mp3. As you can see the beginning directory info is not showing. I am still testing to see if I can modify the MM4 playlists and have them play on the player, because I would prefer to use MM but at this point I will take anything I can. If you need anything else let me know.

I meant whether it's a mass-storage device (having a drive letter) or rather using MTP interface.

Just send me a sample of playlist that does work and another playlist created by MM that doesn't work, it probably will explain a lot.

Oh, yes it is a Mass Storage and it has a drive letter and it is using the WDM plugin.

This is what the playlist looks like that works from Doubletwist:

Code: Select all

 #EXTM3U
Alicia Keys\Songs in a Minor\alicia keys - how come you don't call me.mp3
Chanté Moore\Love the Woman\chanté moore - it ain't supposed to be this way.mp3
Christina Aguilera\Stripped\christina aguilera - walk away.mp3
This is what MM's created playlist looks like:

Code: Select all

 #EXTM3U
K:\Music\Alicia Keys\Songs in a Minor\alicia keys - how come you don't call me.mp3
K:\Music\Chanté Moore\Love the Woman\chanté moore - it ain't supposed to be this way.mp3
K:\Music\Christina Aguilera\Stripped\christina aguilera - walk away.mp3
Though I will say modifying the playlists and removing K:\Music\ in notepad does not make them playable on the player, so there must be something else done to make them work.

Make sure Force relative paths is enabled under Options > Playlists on the Device Profile.

I tried that, it doesn't like that format either. It has to be something with the way the Touch is accepting them, because only the Doubletwist program, which sends it to its own app, works on it. I've tried using the Music program that comes with the Touch and downloaded a few others including Winamp, and all the Doubletwist playlists plays in any music app but not the MM playlists. The music plays fine, but not the playlists.

Have you tried enable/disable UTF8?

Yep, I also tried the Linux option but either I have not found the right combination or I do not know what I am doing... Ok, I know I do not know what I am doing. I even tried looking for an app that would convert the MM playlists to the right format, which is what led me to the Doubletwist app. I've tried google searches and looking on the very un-helpful Creative forum.

Another place to look for help is anythingbutipod.com. Can't believe you can sync your Zen but not Touch. :(

Thanks for the suggestion, I will check it out but honestly at this point I am ready to return this thing and try to find a refurbished X-Fi somewhere, at least with that one I know it will sync with MM and it does everything I like. This is the third one I've purchased and I still have not found one I am happy with.

Could you send me the two playlists above by e-mail? I'd like to check them out by a hex-editor, since there must be a difference.

Interesting, both files appear to be in the very same ASCII-only format, so there can't be the root of the issue. Do all the listed files really exist? If so, I really don't see any reason why would both playlist work the same way.
