Disable iPhone integration

Whenever I plug my phone into the computer I get a dialog asking me to install iTunes without even a cancel button. I do not store any media on my phone because I can't stand iTunes and to be prompted by music player repeatedly is annoying to say the least. Is there a way to disable this functionality?

You can disable the device under Tools > Options > Portable Device Sync.
