Works great by the way! :)

But there really is a bug that it only shpows "No update available" also if one is available and MM also is able to install it.

- In the Uninstall.ini, how can I delete the folders created by my script?
When I tried this at first, it came up with an error "permission denied".

Now I try through a separate vbs script, since the Uninstall.ini file can call a Uninstall.vbs script when uninstalling. Often it works. Ocassionally though (for example, when a file from the folder was recently accessed), one needs to shut MM down, reboot, and then try uninstalling again. Only the second time will it work.
MegaDJ v2 - Lightning fast and easy to use search to replace the standard AutoPlaylist. Features include random jukebox style playlists, along with syncing, weighting options, and logic complete querying.

I'm having trouble getting my installation package working under Windows Vista. Here is the Install.ini for my package:

Code: Select all

[Header]
ID=MonkeyFlow
Title=MonkeyFlow
Description=Browse album art similar to iTunes CoverFlow
VersionMajor=0
VersionMinor=1
VersionRelease=0
VersionBuild=0
Type=script

[Copy]
Src=MonkeyFlow.vbs
Tgt={app}\scripts\auto\MonkeyFlow.vbs

[Copy]
Src=MonkeyFlow.exe
Tgt={app}\scripts\auto\MonkeyFlow.exe
This works perfectly under Windows XP. When I run it on Vista as an admin user, MediaMonkey gives me a "Product installation error."

The strange thing is that my extension still shows up under the "Tools->Extensions" dialog, but none of my files were copied to the MediaMonkey scripts directory. When I try to uninstall my extension, MediaMonkey gives me the error "Cannot delete C:\ProgramData\MediaMonkey\Extensions\MonkeyFlow. Access is denied. The file may be in use or you may not have access rights."

Any ideas what is going on here?

You have to run install scripts as admin in vista as I understand it

I was logged in as admin when I got these errors, so I'm not sure what else I need to do.

Logging in as admin isn't enough. Try running MM as admin (Right-click > Run as Admin) and then installing the script. This has always worked for me though I've since disabled UAC.

Thanks, that did the trick! It would be nice if MM would automatically elevate the user rights to admin when installing extensions.

Yeah, it'd also be nice if Vista didn't have such ridiculous control over one's computer! :wink:

The UAC can get annoying, but I actually like it for the most part because it helps expose flaws in programs. For example, I would consider this a flaw with MM. It should not install extensions in the installation folder, but in the users application data folder. This does not require administrator privileges and allows each user on a computer to have their own extensions installed without interfering with other users. UAC is not perfect, but If more application developers followed these basic principles people would probably not hate it so much. I'm not trying to pick on the MM developers, a lot of developers have made these mistakes, even me :oops:

As far as I know MM was designed this way so that extensions would be common to all users.

spoken like a person that does not realize vista changed everything in coding again from xp like xp changed it from windows 9x systems. :wink:
but vista is so messed up and hammered by so many people that microsoft has decided to not use the name vista anymore they are calling it windows 7.
that is the latest promo from the news stations. and they rolled out the latest test versions of it i think as windows 7 about last monday i think.
even the mac pc commericals have picked up on it and changed the way those are made.

Windows 7 just is the next windows version which will be released in 2010. So its the successor of Vista and it's quite logical that they don't use the same name anymore - they never did!
