May not be an expert but it worked. Thanks mate. Much appreciated.
I'll use robocopy to back up the music files.

Hi, I just wanted to give a heads up that a Windows 7 update I got last night may be causing problems with the Backup script. It was running fine until today and that update is the only thing that has changed. I've tried all of the above suggestions to grant permission to the required folders for the script to work correctly again, including the registry modification listed. I have even tried running it with my AV (Codomo) completely shutdown.

I get this error on startup is:

Error #70 - Microsoft VBScript runtime error
Permission denied
File: "C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\Scripts\Auto\Backup.vbs", Line: 1693, Column: 2

I had to turn off the options to "Delete old backups - ..." to get MM start without erroring. I also noticed if I re-enable those options after MM has loaded and then try to run a manual backup, the backup hangs indefinitley on the "deleting old backups" stage.

Thanks for all the awesome tools!

Trix, I've uninstalled the backup script for now. I'm using MM4.

Can I delete the [MMBackup] section in MediaMonkey.ini?

The same question for [BatchArtFinder] and [GenreFinder]; I've removed them for now too.

Also, I'm guessing that backup 5.8 needs some adjustments to work with mm4? But really I have no idea. Advice appreciated.

Yes you can and the script is working with mm4, the only adjustment that would need to be is the settings location but to compensate for that I point my other folder to the roaming folder that has the settings.

Also, genre finder works with MM4 I was not able to get batch art finder to work, but I did not put in any time investigating why it wasn't working. Maybe I will go back to it now that my mm4 is setup as I want it to be.

This script really came in handy after reinstalling Media Monkey on a new SSD drive. The VB script didn't run because I couldn't run it in administrator mode but I just followed the paths in the VB script by opening it in notepad and did it manually. So a big thank you Trixmoto! :D

Here are my settings, with these settings I am able to get a backup each time I open MM and if a backup does not exist for that hour, it creates it. I stopped using the archive feature because I have enough backups created to save me from myself. I have never used the restore.vbs feature, I usually restore either the mediamonkey.ini, mm.db or registry settings manually.

Hi, Nyn. If you get a moment or two, is there any chance of a screenshot of your latest settings (esp. for MM4) and a brief description of your 'backup workflow'.

Many thanks.

Hey,

I've got a new computer with Win7 and so I'm reinstalling all the MMscripts I had on my old desktop, but for some reason this script gives errors on the new desktop:

Code: Select all

Script: C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts\abackup.vbs
Line : 329
Char: 7
Error: Invalid procedure call or argument
Code: 800A0005
Source: Microsoft VBScript Runtime Error
(In dutch:)

How can this be solved? :(

Here are my current MM4 settings, my workflow consists of letting the backup script manage my daily backups. I have a separate "Archive" folder on a different drive which I use to manually save one of the archives from the first day of the month and the last day of the month. I also do the same thing with my playlists that I have exported and saved using Zvezdand's Export M3U script. This is my daily process, if I am testing any new things such as going from regular to portable, I create special backups with names to remind me what I was trying to do ie. 081411 Pre-Portable Test. I also do not backup the scripts folder on a daily basis because I have too many scripts and it takes up a lot of room, I will randomly select them to backup.

I tried your setting and now I get a box saying:

Backup cancelled because output folder could not be created

I cannot find this problem in this topic..

Has the directory where you want the backups to go created? Do you have write access to the drive/directory??

The directory exists.
Is there an easy way to check the access?

EDIT: and it is weird that the Backup script doesn't show in the script-section under 'extra' :(
