MMA not syncing over windows 7 VPN using 3G/4G
Hello,
I would love to sync over 4G using a VPN
So i set up the VPN server on my home computer (using windows 7 embedded VPN server, PPTP)
I then created a VPN connection on my device (S3 4G android 4.3), and i connect to the server over 4G just fine
Then i start MMA (version 1.04.0240) and try to connect to MMW (4.1.0.1687)
But the sync never works. Also, i don't see the MMW server neither in Options > Select sync server or in UPNP Servers
Do you have any idea of which setting could be missing ?

You're using an old version of MediaMonkey, the current version is 4.1.1.1703 (no guarantee it will change anything for this issue though).

Be aware that DLNA (and therefor wifi sync) only works on the local network. I don't know if your VPN is setup to behave like that (be a local network and pass DLNA discovery messages along).

Well, normally once connected via the VPN, i am considered as on a local network and should get the notifications from the rest of the network, no?
I'll look into DNLA and windows 7 VPN, to see if i can learn anything..

I'm not too familiar with VPN, but I'm pretty sure it could limit which protocols are allowed through. DLNA uses auto-discovery (only on local network) and these messages need to be passed along by the network.

Re: MMA not syncing over windows 7 VPN using 3G/4G
I know that some people can sync over VPN including at least one of the devs, though I can't remember who. I've tried unsuccessfully with three VPN servers; two built into routers and the Win7 PPTP server.
The server must support broadcast packets for DLNA to work. I don't know about the Win7 server, but the server in my current router supports this and I still can't get it to work.
Try disabling your firewall and see if it makes a difference. It's possible for the firewall to block connections from the VPN even though they should be treated as the local network.
You could also try using a file manager app with network support like ES File Explorer to see if you can access network shares on the computer.

I'll try es Explorer but my firewall is already disabled as my Internet provider provides me with a router which is protection enough

thanks for such a healthy information, I always wondered exactly what this was and how it was accomplished. Your steps are very clear even to a novice like me. Thanks for the great information.

I am researcher and currently i am student of vpnindustry. I am searching for resolving the vpn users issues and create a list of vpn providers according to their vpnranks.Aralvor wrote:who or what are you thanking exactly ?jameshouston135 wrote:thanks for such a healthy information, I always wondered exactly what this was and how it was accomplished.
