MMA still not NAS compatible

Post by daztrue »

Since the release of MMA I've only been able to access my files via UPnP (thus not benefitting from numerous features) due to the fact that I have my media, MM.DB and INI file (as well as a MM server) all stored on my NAS.

Despite MM being flexible when it comes to configuration (see links below), this has never been reflected in MMA. PLEEEASE can you make MMA capable of accepting login credentials for NAS/servers, and flexible regarding MM.DB, INI file and MM server locations?

MMA -- the Android app -- does not make use of mm.db and other PC files.

But it syncs with the MM.DB library on the PC, which means it has to be able to read the files in question. This should be achievable with a NAS.

No, MMA doesn't read the MM DB, instead MMW provides the necessary info to MMA.

I stand corrected. Nevertheless, with the aforementioned configuration flexibility of MMW, there is still no reason why MMW shouldn't be able to provide such info to MMA from a NAS - as long as MMA has the suggested improvements made.

MMA already gets the info from MMW and MMW already allows you to store the database elsewhere (including NAS): http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... le/View/48

I stated that - and quoted that link. I already have the data of MMW setup on my NAS (DB, INI and MM server addon), which works perfectly from different PCs.

What I'm stating is that because there is no feature on MMA to enter account/login credentials for a NAS share/path, it doesn't recognise my DB, INI or server addon, leaving UPnP as the only option to access my media.

Yes, that's what we're saying as it goes through MMW to access that. You either access files through the UPnP server on the NAS or the UPnP server in MMW. Direct media file access is currently not possible (and due to lack of proper tag scanner not something that would work well). Access to ini makes little sense as it's a complete different product and access to MMW DB seems really unlikely as it's likely setup differently from DB used in MMA.

There's a contradiction here. However, regardless of how MMW & MMA sync (typically), you've confirmed that, as I said, only UPnP is possible from a NAS with the current features of MMA.

But as this thread states, it is here to make feature requests, so have I done so simply by posting, and how will I know whether/when it will be considered?

My guess is that you won't know unless it happens to find its way in Mantis OR one day you upgrade and it is there.

This is definitely the direction that I want to see MMA go--my feeling is that a tablet should eventually have almost the entire feature set of MMW.

BUT, there are some basic features that I consider higher priority atm (e.g. autoplaylists, sorting, more fields, etc....).

That said, I've added this feature at:

Thanks!
