Syncing Metadata without synching files

Post by SelArom »

I finally got around to using the new metro app and I love the UPNP! I was able to play my songs from my server AND the metadata came in (star ratings, which is extremely important to me as a DJ).

However, I noticed that when I change a star rating of a song streaming over UPnP the star rating is not synched back to the server. If this requires sync addon, I'll GLADLY pay the upgrade fee, however, does this addon work by synching ALL the files to the PC? this is on a surface where space is limited...

the only thing I want to be able to do is play a song from a playlist over UPnP and set the star rating and have that pushed back to the server. can this be done with the current release?

if not will it be supported in the "rewrite" release?

if so, when is that planned to be released? can I beta test?

I'm a professional Win8 developer as well, so if I can help at all please let me know!

thanks

This is not possible as the DLNA standard is a streaming only standard. No tagging is supported by DLNA thus it isn't implemented in MMW, MMA or MM8.

ohh well that stinks...

so why is it that in the metro app, when I select UPnP, and play a playlist from it, I can change the star ratings and metadata in the Win8 app? is this a local copy of the metadata?

because it does bring in my star ratings from UPnP correctly as well as the metadata...

Does the sync feature do anything to overcome this?

Editing of metadata will be disabled correctly for UPnP tracks in a future release.

sorry for my missing the message here, but if I understand you correctly, the sync feature in windows 8 is just to keep the accessibility of tracks?

or is sync different that UPnP and purchasing the addon will allow me to do what I want? and

Sync will synchronize (copy) files from MMW (the files on the MMW PC) to MM8 (device running MM8) and it will be able to update metadata back to MMW (not sure how far implementation of that is along). UPnP only streams files on playback.

ohhh okay thanks for clearing that up, I guess I thought they were the same thing.

this is what I'm looking for then, tho I don't really want to copy my whole library to be able to play it.

but if that's what I gotta do then so be it!

For now I just pointed my music folder at my remote folder, which is working but sloooow.

I also can't get the sync server to show up on my work pc (works on my surface but I don't have enough room to sync my whole library!!) but I'll start another thread to troubleshoot that if I can't figure it out

thanks for your help.

Make sure devices are on the same network and that firewalls on respective devices aren't blocking MediaMonkey.

all my devices are on the same network, firewalls off on all machines, but my work pc doesn't load. has to be a problem with this PC not MM because my surface works...

i've had other connectivity issues with this machine so I'm sure it's the pc not MM

thanks again
