Updating Track Info

I have about a hundred gigs of audio saved on a memory card and I use MM on my phone and my laptop. I have taken that memory card from my phone and inserted it into my laptop. I went through the MM tree and loaded all of the tracks from the memory card into MM. I updated track names, album info, and genres in the MM platform (not on my hard drive where the files are stored). I am aware of "Auto-tag" which takes the info from the file, but my file info is inaccurate and I have over 15000 tracks, so I am not interested in using the file data.
After the updates, I took the memory card out and placed it back in my phone the changes were not updated on MM within my phone. However, when I placed the memory card back in my laptop the changes were present.
Am I missing a step or am I not able to update track information directly on the MM platform and have it present once the card is back in my phone?
