2060 2 different Issues: 1. Windows XP 2. Virtualbox

Post by Friedrich »

1. MM5 does not start in Windows XP
2. In a win7 virtual machine (Virtualbox; Linux host): Lots of graphical glitches
MM5 (2606)and MM4 (1919) installed and running well on:
Debian 11 KDE, EndeavourOS KDE (wine 7.4 via playonlinux), Win10 64bit

Unfortunately, windows XP is no longer supported by chromium. Can you send me some screenshots of the graphics issues on virtual Win 7 ?

So that is expected not to work. OK.

Sure.
1. Issues inside the app-window:
a. Flickering of various elements while moving the mouse over the apps window (no screenshot)
b. Highlighting while hovering mouse is all over the place sometimes:

2. Issues outside the apps window:

a. Opening a menu entry on the right side ("Tools"):

b. Opening properties window:

3. The MM5-window can not be moved or resized after these actions. Maximize/minimize works.

maybe vmware player works better, it's free and much easier to move images to other locations, I found that it's a major pain in virtualbox, this and for other reasons I switched to vmware years ago and never had issues with it. I tested MM5 in vmware win 7 client and win 10 host often and never saw an issue similar to that screenshots, issues at the moment is window sizes and locations at 144 DPI or more

3D-acceleration for the virtual machine set to disabled in Virtualbox: No issues
Not surprisingly (?) Chrome seems to produce similar problems that are solvable the same way.

Edit:
Newer guest additions offer an "experimental" 3D-driver for Windows 7/Vista "Aero".
That one seems to work.

Have to try out on win 10 yet...

The default (and probably your configuration) is: 3D-acceleration not enabled. -> no issues
The default 3D-acceleration enabled -> issues
"Experimental" 3D-acceleration "for Aero" enabled -> no issues (whether using "Aero" or not, i.e. classical designs, etc.)
So, nothing for you guys to worry about, I guess .. . Just good to know for some vboxusers.
