Hi,
just wondering: when I focus on Music->All Tracks, in media tree, on left side, I can switch to a view "Album & Tracks"
When focusing on my media server (actually a Synology NAS), and selecting "All Music" from media tree, I cannot switch to a view named "Album & Tracks". It simply does not exist and I cannot even create one.
To be honest, I find creating own views very confusing: Somestimes I can create a custom view, using view type "List View" and sometimes I additionally can select a type "Album & Tracks". Sometimes I can group and sometimes not. Is this by intention or just some overseen issues with MM5?

Re: Views - Album & Tracks
Same thoughts here on my side. To be honest i was too lazy to sum up all the odd situations. Zonky mentions a few of them now. Like Zonky I can't see a logical line to follow when i navigate through the media tree. It seems to be a result of luck which formats of views are choosable. It is getting even more complicated when i do a search. So ... up to now my attitude was 'let them develop and wait for the results". But now that Zonky begins a discussion about it, i will try to contribute. And now it's your turn, Barry

Re: Views - Album & Tracks
Hi Michael & BMF,
What do you mean by selecting "All Music" from the Media Tree? ... I can't see this node in my Media Tree ... you created it?
AFAICS Album&Tracks is not available from:
- Location nodes, eg. Home>EntireLibrary>Location>Network>MyNas>Share
- Home>Folders>Music
- Home ... ie. go to Home, and click an artist ... I get to see the list of the artist's album, but can't toggle the view to Album&Artists?
I agree that MM5 is made harder to to learn, and harder to become comfortable and productive with, due to this kind of inconsistency.
There seems to be every reason why I would want, and expect, the Album&Tracks view to be available in all of those places ... I don't know why it isn't available, and think that a design decision like that just serves to make MM5 seem like a foreign place for a longer period during the leaning or evaluation period.
I have been suggesting that MM5 seems too modal ever since I started testing it .... they have never responded to comments like that ... yesterday I was in a silly mood, and posted something taking the piss (aka ridiculing, for any non Australian or British readers ) about confusion while trying to learn how MM5 works .... I probably should not have done that, but I was trying to blast through the lack of response.
I am a big fan of what they have done with MM5 ... I don't want to use MM4 any more, because MM5 is much better.
But it seems to me that it will be unnecessarily hard to learn and to appreciate MM5 ... more than it should|could be.
I think that they may exist in a bit of a bubble as far as this goes ... and more feedback on this subject, like yours for example, may help.
OTOH I can think of one reason why album&artist may not appear everywhere. I only use MM for Music ... maybe you do too? ... An unwanted Album&Tracks node may confuse or annoy customers who use MM for AV files or podcasts ... maybe this becomes difficult in the Location and Home nodes? ... even so, I want to see the node everywhere ... and for music based customers, its on|off nature is confusing as you have demonstrated.
It looks to me like the "Manage Views" facility is a early work in progress.Zonky wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 1:22 pm To be honest, I find creating own views very confusing: Somestimes I can create a custom view, using view type "List View" and sometimes I additionally can select a type "Album & Tracks". IMO they should remove it until it becomes useful ... at the moment I think that it just delays the learning process ... ie. it looks like there is an extra level of flexibility that you just need to understand, and then you could reorganise the UI into something that will be more consistent for your own Use Case ... this is not the case in the current implementation, and its presence is just another thing that there is to try and understand, for little gain IMO,
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.
