Recover playlists

Post by cmatte »

Hi.
I was using MM4 on my Win7 X64 pc.
I decided to do a complete format of the system to solve various un-related problems and make it "brand new" again!
I now reinstalled everything I need, mm4 included (1459). I did backup various things of my system just in case I missed something useful, comprehending AppData Roaming/Local/Local Low folders. I made mm4 regenerate all its db from the beginning without restoring the old one. I thought playlists were saved somewhere as normal files (.m3u or everything else), but I can't find them anywhere. I see mm4 found some of them and put them into "imported playlists" but they are completely EMPTY :o
It's so strange, unit letters are exactly the same as before, so paths should also be exactly the same on the playlists.
I now have the old db there, are playlists saved there? Are they recoverable?
Is there another way to recover a lost/empty playlist?
Please help, I made so many efforts choosing my favorite songs

No, the playlists are saved within the database, if you still have the old db file then you can recover them using the Restore Playlists script by Zvezdand (http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =2&t=42085). If not, I am afraid you have lost them unless you used one of the export or backup scripts to export them out of the db.

---edit1---
Well, will write to get support on the script's thread.
Basically, it says:
backup: 4444
current db: 4413 (I deleted something? mmh, not sure of, perhapssongs was re-organized by mm)
matched tracks: 662.
What a shame
---edit2---
Well, it didn't work. It finds roughly 600 files out of 4400, and files are the same, exactly.
I tried just restoring the db file and I see more tracks are found, others are not, but I think I'll be able to re-match them, they are just a few.
Other things seem messed this way but...it seems the only way...

It would be nice to have a confirm script for deleting playlists. Is that something that can be added to the next release?
One wrong touch of the delete button and I lost 4 hours of choosing files. Not cool.
