Try Tools | Options | CD/DVD devices -> Uncheck "Read CD text"
Any difference?

Vista or XP both had the same issue. Ended up having to switch bios from ACHI mode to Compatibility mode. Fixed everything.
Best of luck to you if you cant find a bios switch. They did say win7 looks good and may fix it

I upgraded from vista ultimate x64 back around the first of this month, to windows 7 pro x64. in vista, everything was perfect. I could insert cds, play/rip them using mediamonkey, all that wonderful stuff. with ahci enabled, no less. but in windows 7, mediamonkey locks up whenever a CD is inserted. oddly enough, the last song I had playing keeps going fine, without issue. if I try and kill mediamonkey through task manager, the window may disappear, but the .exe never closes. additionally, no program on the computer can use the cd drive properly after it happens, some programs refuse to even launch, and I have to restart before I can use it again. incredibly annoying, especially since sometimes I forget mm is running before inserting a cd. even more oddly though, putting in a blank cd works fine. hell, I can even burn blank cds in mm. just not insert any already-written-to cds.
if I switch from ahci to compatibility, I'll have to do a ton of troubleshooting to get windows 7 switched properly, and lose some performance potential. this is a serious bug that affects only mediamonkey and should be fixed in the program, not by telling users to switch their bios settings. considering itunes and windows media player both work fine with cds, it's definitely an mm problem.
