1708 MTP device root folder Remove fails

On an MTP device (here Creative ZEN):

1 Right-click Folders, Music and click Remove http://i.imgur.com/zhafG1s.png
2 To confirmation http://i.imgur.com/OXq4F6H.png click Yes

Expected: folder removed
Observed: folder not removed.

Note: no such problem on a Music sub-folder containing files but no folders e.g. http://i.imgur.com/FoXZquY.png or on Folders, Playlists, containing files but no folders.

EDIT: On the same operation, Explorer gives an error: http://i.imgur.com/iSRAybJ.png
