Discussion about the Official Wishlist

Post by Morten »

This thread will not be closed and is a compliment to The Official Wishlist.

Discuss and request threads concerning the features to be added to that list.

Rules
- You MUST provide a link to a thread outlining the features in detail for it to get a place in the Official Wishlist. I will ignore all other requests which doesn't provide a link where the features have been OUTLINED. This is crucial so that the developers know what the people want.

First off, how should we sort the wishes into "Genres"?

I think Teknojnky's list covers most of everything, but I think that Scripting, Syncing, and plugins should have their own category as they are all pretty distinct. Also "general" seems a little broad, so here's my modifications to the above list:

* UI
* File Types / Tagging
* Portable / Sync support
* Scripting
* Skinning
* Plugin support
* Video support
* Media Library / UPNP Client/Server
* Other

* Portable / Sync support

* Video support
* Media Library / UPNP Client/Server
* Playlists

Give me a reason why Onweerwolf, because I can't seem to find a reson to do that.

Also, for a feature to be added to the list, give me a description and a link to the thread outlining that feature. We begin now!

Syncing

I would like the ability for MM to natively support syncing of a Zen Vision M with a plugin specifically for Zens rather then the generic plugin. I would like the ability to play my Zen within MM as discussed here and here and the ability to sync back from my Zen as Ipods are able to do.

Syncing/Playlists

I would also like the ability to use the send to feature to manually send 1 or more playlists to the device which has songs that are on previous playlists and not have the songs removed from the previous playlists as discussed here.

Playlists

* Autoplaylist: Condition = After/before XX-XX-XXXX - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25008

* Random by artist - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25508

* Limit tracks per artist - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24730

* Referencing playlists with subplaylists - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25020

* Additional condition and sorting options - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23743

* Now Playing list and Playlist Numbering - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=540

* Sort by Album Artist in Advanced Search and Auto Playlists - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22530

* In Advanced Autoplaylists be able to link conditions or/not - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25345

* Different views for every playlist - http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21680

------

Some may overlap and some may even be possible already. I haven't researched everything. However it shows that there's definitely room for improvement in the playlist department and people do have a lot of wishes.

File formats / Tagging

Library features

Scripting

Skinning

Plugins-support

Import/Export & Burn

Media library / UPnP-/ Server & Streaming

Playlist / Auto-DJ / Filters

Compatibility with other software and control-devices

Support for other types of media (Video, Pictures etc.)

Other

--------------------------

They are sorted mostly after importancy.

I would love to have some sort of thin-client for streaming music over the web. So my library stays at home, but I can access it from anywhere. As I play music, playcounts get updated and I can rate and tag interactively with the thin client.

That would be the absolute best thing that could happen to mediamonkey, in my opinion.

Read these rules before answering to this post. Also, read the "How-to" in The Official Wishlist for guidance on how to add wishes to the wishlist.

Fixed for you.. :o

Mostly in jest... but do please consider that every persons personal priority list is/will be different.. 8)

and perhaps note as such within your sticky, that the order does not necessarily denote any implied or explicitly stated priority (unless a developer denotes a specific priority somewhere)... this is probably an obvious point, but I think its better to state up front rather than have folks come along and bicker about a particular order..

Personally, I agree with the general category order of priority, however I would put native video support in the top 1/3 rather than at the bottom... particularly with the proliferation of portable players with video support and no way to sync those via MM.

Support for Video-syncing will go under "Synchronizing with Devices". For MediaMonkey to sort and view videos, it will go under "Support for other types of media (Video, Pictures etc.)".

About importancy on features, could you explain a bit more what you mean? Thanks. :)

Morten
