Windows Vista
I recently purchased a laptop with Microsofts' Windows Vista Premium. There has been such a negative experience so far with Vista, I'm hesitant to download MM. Anyone experienced Vista? In particular with MM.
Happy Trails!

I have been able to successfully run Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate using both MM 2.5 and MM 3.0 (all versions). There are a couple of things you have to change/get used to regarding the User Account Controls in Vista, and I know there are some who needed to update the scipting host in order to use any of the scripts, but other than that it was more user configurability than the inability of Vista and MM being able to play together nicely.

MM3 is fully compatible with Windows Vista. I have been running MM3 on Vista Premium for several months now and would be more than happy to answer any more specific questions you may have.

i'll put it in terms i think might be easier to understand.
mediamonkey just took the beach head last year with mm 3.
now they are just past the foliage line and working in to the jungle. with the new betas of mm 3.0.3 but since the beach has been taken they work pretty well with the vista they have.
Also there is need for debriefing of each of your missions that have trouble for you. post your debriefing in the debug forum room or the beta testing forum room.

I had some problems with some script installations but found that running MM as admin just to install scripts, then going back to my standard account solved that issue for me. I believe many folks run MM with UAC disabled so your success may vary. I actually turned off UAC several hours ago because it was giving me a hassle while doing some testing but I was tired and needed a break anyway. I'm not sure if I'll turn it back on or not.

I would agree with RovingCowboy: we are just coming up from the beach in terms of making Vista a reliabe platform... My basic MM database and playback functions work in Vista, but I continue to have problems with scripts and plug-ins. Running as Administrator maybe solves my problems 50 percent of the time.
I went out and got a copy of XP. I am now dual booting XP and Vista on my "Vista machine". I run MM 2.5 on the XP side and MM 3.0 on the Vista side; both setups use the same database. I would say I run the XP side of my machine maybe 95 percent of the time. That should tell you what I think about Vista.

I turned it back on. I had some programs with installations that depended on it being enabled and I didn't want to mess with trying to reconfigure those.spacefish wrote:I actually turned off UAC several hours ago because it was giving me a hassle while doing some testing but I was tired and needed a break anyway. MM3 is fine with Vista Home Premium and in fact I didn't really have many problems with MM2.
You do have to be aware that when installing scripts you often need to run MM as Administrator first, perform the install, quit and then re-run MM3.
If you do get any problems with scripts, there is nearly always someone in the forums who has tried it with Vista and they have the solution.
In terms of other software, MM3 seems to me to run at least as well as anything else on Vista. I'd say go for it!!!
