Where are you from? - Wikipedia

Post by drjboulder »

I have always enjoyed the "Global-ness" of the Monkey's Forum.
I know that there is a Thread in here for mapping where you are from.
Thought it could be interesting to start a Wikipedia-Where-Are-You-From-Thread.

I love to learn about different places that I will probably never get to visit!

Try to keep it to Wikipedia references.

I will start:
Boulder, Colorado, USA

I grew up in Lumberton, NJ, USA - the US town with the most active Ebay buyers/sellers:
Wikipedia wrote:In March 2007, Lumberton was identified as having the most active community of EBay buyers and sellers on a per-capita basis in the United States.[5][6]
During the school year I live in New Brunswick, NJ for school at Rutgers University.

Hey, thanks all for posting!

Some very interesting reads.
I have a penchant for geography and have enjoyed the Wikis!

@Spacefish -
wiki wrote:Morris Plains...As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 5,236.
wiki wrote:Almost 300,000 citizens live within the city limits of Aarhus, while an additional 500,000 live in the surrounding local area of the East Jutland region. Aarhus is also a part of the larger East Jutland metropolitan area with 1,200,000 inhabitants.
That must have been quite the adjustment! How long have you lived in Aarhus?
I remember having anxiety attacks when I moved from Steamboat Springs, CO to Boulder, due to small town versus large town.

LOL

So, are you Pre-Med @ Rutgers? Remember RC mentioning that you are in Med School.

@Mode:
Geelong certainly has a very interesting history.
I have many Aussie "Friends" from my years living in Steamboat.
We would get a couple of hundred Temp workers every winter from down under.
Many good times!
Probably lends toward the large number of Aussie bands in my library.
(Actually, Icehouse is playing as I type this!)
And certainly my penchant towards Vegemite sandwiches!

I've been here just over 5 years now. It wasn't hard to adjust really. I just thought of it as moving from the suburbs to the city. Having lived less than 50 miles from NYC most of my life, I spent quite a lot of time there. Always thought I might like living in the city and now I do, just on a smaller and less chaotic scale! And I've lived all over the US in all types of areas so this was just one more. No biggie. :)

What's nice about living where I do is that it's on the outer fringe of "downtown" so I'm not right in the fray but I am still surrounded by shops (love this area!). But just a few blocks away, I can walk through the forest and come out down by the beach. I really have the best of everything here! Public transportation is great and it's a bicycle culture (though I never picked up that habit) so there is not as much traffic as there is in New York. Also all things car related are very expensive here so it tends to keep the numbers down.

I'm from Basel, Switzerland in the middle of Europe.
Switzerland is known for its cheese, its chocolate, its clocks, its political neutrality, its most democratical system (AFAIK) and its most beautiful city Basel. ;)

It's cool to read the wikis of your places! :D

I have not owned one of those car things for over 15 years. :D
Gave up on them when I realized that my Philosophy's were not matching my Actions.
Have learned how to design my life around feet and bike and when needed public transpo.

Could this in some way explain your ability to produce AutoRateAccurate:

Are you possibly related to the Bernoulli's???

And, yes I am also loving the Wiki's.
Keep 'em coming folks!

Funny how people associate Automobile ownership with wealth.

BTW, Roving I found that to be a very ignorant response on your part.
What part of me purposefully not contributing to the degradation of our world did you determine to mean that I must be Broke?

How is this going? BTW

So, are you Pre-Med @ Rutgers? Remember RC mentioning that you are in Med School.

...
No, I'm not actually pre-med or in Med. school. I could see how he got confused though. RC sends me quite a few emails and my signature of my emails reads:
Stephen Platt
Pharm D. Candidate 2010
Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy
Rutgers University, New Jersey
[My email address]
So I'm going for my Pharm D. - Doctor of Pharmacy, which isn't quite the same as Medical Doctor (M.D.)

BTW, I've been to Colorado (Denver), and I have to say I'm quite surprised you don't own a car! Colorado is such a big, open, state compared to NJ - its hard to imagine not having a car! I'm very impressed.

On that note, I spent way too much time on the forum this morning - I'm going to be late for my Pharmacology class!
