1708 Sync to device can fail to delete old playlists [#5531]
EDIT: Was "1708 Sync SUBST drive fails to delete old playlists! [#5531]" but this is now found to affect non-SUBST generic devices.
EDIT: Was "1708 Sync to drive device fails to delete old playli [#5531]" but this is now found to affect MTP devices too e.g. After auto-sync: http://i.imgur.com/vY8lIIm.png .
If having renamed a playlist I auto-sync to a, MM can fails to delete the old .m3u.
EDIT: This post was originally for 1228.
EDIT: first reported in 1193 http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =1&t=34965
EDIT: This bug persists in 1256, 1282 and 1708.
EDIT This bugs shows on HD SUBST devices and http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 30#p393763 USB devices
1 Do SUBST Q: "C:\Folder"
2 Create a new MSC device (by copying the Plugins\ DLL) and set drive letter:
3 In the Device Config Auto-sync Playlists tab, select a play list !new
4 Auto-sync
5 Rename the playlist to !new renamed
6 Auto-sync
7 Inspect Q:\Playlists\
Expected: !new renamed.m3u
Observed: !new renamed.m3u and !new.m3u
EDIT: Actually the failure is more general, affecting any playlist on the device and not on the AS list.

Re: 1228 Sync to drive device fails to delete old playlists!
This is fully reproduceable:
1 Auto-sync some playlists to e.g. SUBSTed Q:
2 Rename one playlist
3 Auto-sync again.
Expected: old-named .m3u removed from Q:
EDIT: or at least MM prompt for said removal
Observed: not.
EDIT: Note: the new-named playlist does appear.
Could someone confirm "Delete Tracks that aren't on the Auto-Sync list from the device" is actually supposed to work on playlists i.e. is not just faulty wording? Thanks.

Re: 1228 Sync to drive device fails to delete old playlists!
I tried to reproduce this but couldn't -- though I didn't use a SUBST drive. (using 3.1.0.1232)
Instead I plugged in a USB flash drive, set the USB_mass plugin to sync to it (Letter H:).
Synced a playlist and associated tracks.
Changed playlist name.
Resynced. The old playlist was removed and the playlist was recopied to the device with its new name.
I will try with a SUBST drive to make sure...
EDIT: Made a subst drive Q:\ but all worked as expected (as above).

Re: 1228 Sync to drive device fails to delete old playlists!
chrisjj, I could not reproduce it even with a SUBST drive - all worked as expected. Perhaps I should try running MM unskinned just in case...
edit: Works the same way in unskinned.

Since it works this way can we not assume that is confirmed?chrisjj wrote:> Could someone confirm "Delete Tracks that aren't on the Auto-Sync list from

It doesn't work that way here. Hence the report.

Sure. In some cases e.g. USB drive playlists are deleted, in others e.g. SUBST drive they are not.

... but again that has worked fine here.chrisjj wrote:> But you've already replied with:

Not to mention that playlists are removed from other devices I've used -- iPods, iPhone, WMDM devices, etc.

Re: 1228 Sync to drive device fails to delete old playlists!
Chrisjj, I really think its safe to assume that "Delete tracks not on the auto-sync list" includes playlists based on the feedback discussed here. What reason do you have to believe this isn't so, besides the one exception in your case which is not even reproducible?!chrisjj wrote:> ... but again that has worked fine here.

a) The UI
b) The Help
c) The multiple reproducible exceptions in my case
d) The absense of an anwer to the contrary from the Devs
> which is not even reproducible?!
It there evidence of that? Evidence only that some people have not reproduced it need not apply
