Checked. Yes it happens just as reported every time here. Win XP SP2.

I wonder if it is related to the long-standing bug wherein on auto-sync playlists are copied even if they have not changed.

Interestingly if I try this on a new user with equivalent (AFAICT) device config, I don't get the failure. Can anyone suggest what user-specific state might explain the difference?

No, as proved by the old-named .m3u.

to confirm:
The delete function was designed to delete both tracks and playlists. I'll add a bug re. the clarity of the verbage (esp. the context help).
EDIT: see http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=5519

Possible explanation: is everyone testing with the same plugin?

I believe we used the same plugin... USB mass plugin with a SUBST drive.

Thanks.

I'm testing with the plug-in supplied with MM V1228. The MM Version uniquely IDs the plug-in, no?

I've tested a bit more and it seems that the bug is specific to the USB MS plugin. i.e. the user that's logged in, and the SUBST config are red herrings--the problem occurs with the USB MS plugin, and doesn't with the wmdm plugin.

Thanks for all the help.

Any clue why it is variable i.e. how NH is immune? Because that could be a workaround for me until the fix.

I'm guessing that nohitter might have accidentally used the wmdm plugin. Nohitter, can you confirm?

No, I'm sure that I didn't. I created a new SUBST drive (Q:) using the command line to point to a "C:\Folder\" location. I then configured the USB mass plugin to point to drive Q: and synced a playlist and a few tracks. Then I renamed the playlist and resynced - the old playlist was removed (I was prompted if it should be deleted) and the new playlist with the new name was sent.

OOI, how is it possible to use wmdm with a SUBST drive? Here, wmdm does not offer the device letter control that USBmass does.

Chris,

The wmdm plugin just automatically detects external drives. I'm not sure if it'll always detect a subst drive as external or whether it depends on whether the SUBST drive is _actually_ an external drive.
