File monitor on network shares

Post by powerpill-pacman »

I moved my music to two network shares, which are playing from from within MM (3.2.1.1297). But whenever i add new tracks to the shares, they don't get added to the library automatically (file-monitor is on). I always have to do so myself, which is quite annoying. Is there anythin i can do, to change this behaviour? I have some threads on the matter and nothing seems to be my exact problem. I don't want to move the DB to a share, because only one of my computers is used for changes on the data. The others are simply for playing the files..

Thanks for help

Can you give us more info about these shares?

same problem here. removing files work and updates automaticly. adding files needs manual refresh. i'm using XP server with UNC paths.
edit: the changes are done on SERVER!

MediaMonkey depends on Windows messages about file changes, so the File Monitor only works on network shares when the updates are being done on the same PC as the one where the File Monitor is running. The other PC's won't see the updates real-time as Windows doesn't keep track of that (logically as it would generate a lot of network traffic). Only the startup scan will work in those cases.

I was going to type this same answer until I scrolled down. I use 2 RAID1 6TB NAS drives for my files (6TB total storage) and a 2TB USB drive for "working files". The file monitor works fine if you update the NAS via the same machine running MM AND that machine has the NAS drive(s) mapped to drive letter(s) on said machine. Updating the NAS drive from a different machine does not (nor should it) inform MM of changes to the NAS.

I don't have the drives mapped (nor should you when using MediaMonkey) and it still updates on the same machine.
