album and artist node (mis)behavior

Post by artworksmetal »

Suddenly I have a lot of bogus albums and album artists. They seem to come from random parts of the filename.
In this first example, each movement of Beethoven's Eroica and the Mozart quartet gets it's own album listing. Vivaldi's Bassoon Concertos get a separate listing for each 3 movement concerto.

In this example, the artist is listed as Four Instrumental Pieces. It's actually LAGQ. The titles 'Can' and 'Son' are actually the last 3 characters of the filename.
'Four Dances' above it is the same situation.

When I open the files with an MP3 tag editor, there's nothing amiss.
I tried all 3 ID tag choices in the Options menu. I also removed the MM.DB file and rebuilt it from scratch. That didn't help.

Any suggestions short of re-editing each one individually?

Thanks much.

Not sure why the photo links from Picasa Web aren't posting. I'm working on it.

Edit: I give up. Changed them to links that take you to the album. Sorry.

From your first screenshot I can see that the Album artist doesn't match for the tracks in that album (6 Bassoon Concertos).

For that item the artist on the mp3 tag is Vivaldi. The Album is 6 Bassoon Concertos. The problem with the Album Mode is in this case it created a separate album for each concerto. So if I want to play this album, I have to select it 6 times.
Some albums each individual track is listed as an album.
Pretty darn inconvenient.

I forgot to mention earlier that I downloaded and installed the latest version of MM, but that didn't help either.

Thanks!

I'm not talking about artist, I'm talking about "Album artist". They are two different fields.

OK, never mind. Problem solved. Somehow the setting got flipped so it used just the filename instead of the tags. I didn't even know that was an option.

Rebuilt the library after fixing that setting, and it's all good.
