When item type is "Audiobook", the "Conductor" and "Album Artist" fields are not available for editing.
At least the Conductor is absolutely required as I regularly use it for the speaker as opposed to Artist which is the original (book) author.
Any ideas?
Kind regards,
Andreas

Album artist is available, right under Album in the properties sheet. Conductor isn't, but you could use Composer instead (or involved people, or a custom field)

Re: Beta 4.0.0.1423 – Audiobooks miss the "Conductor" field
Mhm- this is sad. It _is_ the conductor that is reading the audio book. Apart from me not wanting to retag my entire collectionnohitter151 wrote:Conductor isn't, but you could use Composer instead (or involved people, or a custom field)

Hi Andig,
I don't have a stronge preference to include Composer or Conductor on the Audiobook panel. Are there any best practices for tagging Audiobooks that describe your preference?
We included 'Composer' as the default because the Composer tag seems to be more universally supported...

p.s. even if we don't make the change, I'm sure there's a script that'll help you migrate Conductor --> Composer.

Why not give the user the freedom to use this. As an ultimate tagger more flexibility is better.rusty wrote:I don't have a strong preference to include Composer or Conductor on the Audiobook panel.

At some point in the future, we might add the ability to customize the properties dialog, but for now, I'd like it meet most users needs well, without having to add unneeded functionality (if that's possible).
So I'm asking: anyone have any good rationale for the use of a specific tag for the speaker of an audiobook?
Thanks.

Re: Beta 4.0.0.1423 – Audiobooks miss the "Conductor" field
Hi Rusty,
I cannot offer a best practice attributes description. All I can say is that audio books typically do have an author (the one of the book) and another- typically native-speaking, tv personality- reading/conducting the audio book. The obvious choice for me has been the conductor in the past. I've never cared about the composer- imho thats a very relevant attribute for classical music or musicals, but no typically for an audio book.
The typical usage of downloadable audiobooks seems to indicate that most often comment is used for that- so no strong best practice apparent either.
Kind regards,
Andreas

Re: Beta 4.0.0.1423 – Audiobooks miss the "Conductor" field
Andreas,
I've done a bit more research and there don't seem to be any standards re. what tag to use for the narrator. There were a couple of posts mentioning the use of the 'composer' field, but nothing definitive:
http://oakroadsystems.com/genl/itunsabk.htm
http://amblingbookplayer.com/forums/sho ... e-tag-info
In any case, we don't plan on making a change to this at this stage, though I hope that in a future version we'll add tag mapping that would allow you to map different tags to each of the fields.

There are a couple addons that could let you move Conductor -> Composer in just one step for all your tracks.andig wrote:Apart from me not wanting to retag my entire collection
