Camera import issue after installing MediaMonkey

Post by DJSigma »

In Windows 7, when I connect my camera (a Canon IXUS 100) to my PC, Windows detects it and automatically imports new photos and videos. At least, it did until I installed MediaMonkey and now it no longer works. Windows detects the camera, but it no longer automatically imports photos/videos.

I thought this was just a coincidence when it originally happened on my old PC, but I have just built a new machine that's running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Auto-importing photos/videos worked fine until I installed MediaMonkey and then it immediately stopped working so I'm pretty sure that MediaMonkey is the cause.

Presumably Auto-Play was set to something that imported the files. Check Windows Auto-Play to make sure it isn't set to MediaMonkey.

Auto-play doesn't kick in at all any more when the camera is connected. If I go into the Windows 7 auto-play settings, the camera doesn't show up on the list of devices. Resetting all auto-play settings to the defaults makes no difference to this. The camera does still show up in Windows Explorer, so I can right-click it and choose to import pictures/videos there.

It has to be MediaMonkey though. The first time I thought it was a coincidence, but I have tested this twice with fresh installs and auto-play kicks in just fine every time the camera is connected until MediaMonkey is installed and then it stops working and with no obvious way to fix it.
