Choosing m3u Playlists on Galaxy S2

Post by womzilla »

I am using MM 4.0.6 and a Samsung Galaxy IIS ("Epic Touch").

The Galaxy was recently updated to Samsung's version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4, which removed the Mass Storage mode and insists on synching through Media Transfer Protocol (MTP). I got the file transfer to work with just a little futzing around, but I *cannot* get MM to write m3u playlists to the phone. It insists on creating PLA playlists instead.

I don't use the default player. I use MortPlayer, Audiobook version, which does not read PLA playlists.

Is there any way to get MM to write m3us like it did 2 weeks ago?

(I use because most of the sound files I listen to are >15 minutes long--recorded radio shows, both music and spoken word--and I switch back and forth between a music playlist and a spoken word playlist frequently during the day. Mortplayer is the only Android player I've found that automatically holds my place in a long audio file whenever I switch to a different file. If anyone can suggest a replacement player that *does* read PLA playlists, I'll give that a try.)

You should be able to set M3U as supported format and it should sync Playlists as M3U: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=9216

I cannot find any control that allows me to set the supported format. Can someone walk me through this?

(On the Options tab on for the device, under playlists, I have tried every combination of checkboxes I can think of, and every time, MM writes PLA files instead of m3u.)

It's under Auto-Conversion on the Options tab.

No success. I set the Supported Format to M3U, and it still pushes PLA files.

Any particular magical combination of options that I should set?

I have exaclty the same problem with the Galaxy SIII.
I suspect the Galaxy SIII only handles M3U playlists. But MM syncs PLA playlists, and I suppose that' s why the playlist on the Galaxy is empty (although the music files are there).
How can I get M3U playlists to the Galaxy SIII (it does not work as desribed here before, nor see I something in MM where you can define the format M3U for playlists).

I managed to find in the Internet and download MM 4.0.3.1470 (not available here anymore). This version solves the problem. Newer versions re-import the same problematic behaviour.
It's Saturday so I won't be able to try newest version with old d_WMDM.dll (1740 version).
But I will report on Monday

As I promised, i checked old d_WMDM.dll (from v. 1470) with the newest mediamonkey (v. 1501).
m3u playlists are created, as it should.
It seems that newer dll versions re-introduced problematic behaviour, at least for Galaxy SII.

It points to 4.0.3, not sure what the build version is of the final 4.0.3.
