Service locked file .. can't start MMW [#12712]

I haven't seen this behavior for quite a while. I all of a sudden got the error popup for email. After that I shut down MMW. After a few seconds (at least 10) I tried to start it again but got the message where the service has locked the db so mmw can't access. I again shut down and then shutdown/started the computer. Once it was all up and running I tried MMW again and same thing .. can't access db file .. I went into services and stopped the service. Now mmw works ok.
Like I said haven't seen this for a long time ..

This continues to be a problem every time i reboot my server. I have to manually stop the service and start MMW or else i get the message

This can happen when started MMW can't access Service Parameters/Permissions Hav eyou tried to set specific service settings and tie it to an account?

Also when using MMW service in multi account environment it is suggested to set MM.DB to UAC neutral folder like explained in http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... np-service

I have made no changes to the system at all. It has been working for many many months. I will review the document but my best bet is to ignore the service period as it appears to be the very weak point of this.

I would rather get to bottom of this but yes abandoning service could solve your problems.

Peke .. i was wondering how to get a log from the service. I was thinking that I could do a log of startup of mmw and if there is a service log then both would be helpful to see why they aren't behaving correctly together

I sent a log to support but here is a quick rundown of what i did ...

Tried starting mmw - upto 168 and got "can't do it message"
'stopped' service
started mmw. Started but only 1 of the 3 tabs
added second tab
file/exit mmw - upto 4949

of course mm service was running so before i tried mmw i stopped service again

tried mmw
it opened without error *** but only 1 tab again ***

I then uninstalled the service
then added a second tab
then file/exit
then start MMW. MMW started correctly and 2 tabs existed.

Also Force Stopping Service do not save MMW Settings added as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=12712 but this behavior can be classified simmilar as force clossing and app from Task manager which also doesn't save oppened Tabs

Peke .. first i really do commend you guys on how you continue to try to figure out what is going on. Gotta love your baby or no one else will

I do not understand why "STOP" in there services window would not shutdown correctly (saving off data etc). The STOP *should* do the standard process that starting MMW would do. It has been a very long time since I wrote a service so it could have changed drastically knowing MS. I also don't understand why tabs would change at all from the service. The service does not access UI elements (or shouldn't ?).

As for the ' .. by locking Service to different account .. '. I installed the service with the same user/pass as I use every time i start windows and then MMW. SO it is the same user/account.

Again .. nothing has changed on my system except MMW upgrade to 1738 and window updates.

Is there a way to get a log of what the service sees? What user is starting it, requests to shutdown etc? Would something like that help to see what is causing it to keep the locks?
