Shuffle shouldn't be a global setting

Post by zarb0z »

Hi,

First post of many, so please forgive the seemingly-spam.

IMHO, the Shuffle setting should not be a global setting. For example, up until iTunes 10.7, you could have a playlist (smart or dumb) with Shuffle set, but your global library would not have it set (making albums easier to listen to). You could also have some playlists shuffled and some not, which made it easier to have a "new unplayed" playlist to shuffle through and another that is crafted like a mixtape.

In the current MM, you cannot do this. This is one of the 3 major reasons I left iTunes and came to MM. If it can be fixed, please enlighten me. If it currently can't be fixed, please accept my vote for this feature in a future release.

Thanks,

AutoPlaylists can have Random Sorts.

Instead of Shuffle you can use Randomize List manually in the Now Playing when so desired.

Thanks,

While that may be true, the behaviour "sticks" when leaving the playlist and going somewhere else. That's the issue. It seems like the whole regard is for the current state, rather than the individual collection. Frankly, I'm not interested in verifying the Shuffle is on before I hit play and walk away, I just want it to work.

So the library should ALWAYS be not shuffled, and my gym playlist should ALWAYS be shuffled, both without me doing anything once I set it up that way.

That would seem to be possible as AutoPlaylists can be randomized and thus would play Shuffled even if Shuffle is left off.

OK, I've tested this and you're right. It's just not behaving the way I expected.

To clear this up: the shuffle sort method in a smart playlist shuffles EVERY time the playlist is accessed, which is a bit different from shuffling the play order elsewhere. In MM, the list shuffles and the play is in order, from the first song listed to the second, and down the line. Every time you come back to that playlist, the first song is different, and down the line.

It works, it just takes some patience and a helpful forum.

Thanks.
