Configurable Album Title Disc Number
I would like and option in Library --> Appearance to apply Disc # to Album Titles with a Mask type entry.
This would only change the display in the main tracks view etc
(Tick Box) Show Disc Details in Album Titles (Mask box)
Unticked
The Beatles, 1967-1970
Mask Disc #
The Beatles, 1967-1970 Disc 1
Mask (Disc #)
The Beatles, 1967-1970 (Disc 1)
Mask Disc # of *
The Beatles, 1967-1970 Disc 1 of 2
etc

etc
I guess the column Disc # doesn't suffice?

Not really.
On the right side its just sitting out there
On the left is better but..
A column of just 1's and 2's etc is not really "nice" to look at
There is also the extra effort of combining the 2 columns before it registers
On a side note:
I haven't converted my multi CD albums to Disc # yet. I have entered the data but all my Album titles retain CD 1, CD 2 etc.
This is mainly to accomodate my iPod shuffle mode and auto DJ by album playing.
26 Beatles songs in a row is a bit too much in one session
But there are some albums where it is good to hear both CD's together
Still weighing up the pros and cons

Ah, okay. I guess I just don't have a problem with the terse display although I would like MM to adopt Total Disc and Total Track fields. I'm much more used to seeing (disc) 1/2 or (track) 5/18 but it's not a major sore point.

Re: Configurable Album Title Disc Number
I know this seems to be an old, old topic but I've finally puzzled out the answer I was looking for on my own.
Sometimes with auto-loading disc information from the web, a multi-digit number would fill the "Disc #" field.
Inspecting the cd & the packaging, I found that this number is sometimes on the backbone of the package & it matches the UPC without spaces or nun-numeric characters.
I would assume everyone uses the Disc # field for their own purposes.
My curiousity would not allow me to rest until I could find where the other mysterious number came from.
My apologies if this is just repeating common knowledge, but the first tier search does not reveal this information.
Hope this helps!

They shouldn't. The MediaMonkey Disc # field is supposed to be used for 'part of set' e.g. 1/2 meaning the first disc in a two-disc set. It is not supposed to be used for the barcode number (a.k.a. EAN, UPC), but you can see how that might arise given MM's ambiguous labelling "Disc #" and lack of documentation.RayArf wrote:I know this seems to be an old, old topic but I've finally puzzled out the answer I was looking for on my own.

Additionally note that whereas most multi-disc sets have a single UPC/EAN for the set, some have one for each disc in the set.
In general, the best place for the UPC/EAN in the tag is in a custom field appropriately labelled. Since MM doesn't allow such labelling, ne has to make do with one of its CUSTOM1-4 fields.

Agreed.Peke wrote:I guess It is a matter of preference, custom can be used also
A few others can be repurposed... with a penalty to pay if in future one wanted to use them for the intended purpose, inc. preserve incoming files already using them for the intended purpose. This can be an important consideration of working on a large, long-term library.Peke wrote:and few others too.

Agreed 100%. I've done that 15 years ago when decided to choose MMW and now library is 120k satisfied with my choice.
