Greyed tracks after changing file path slightly

Post by _Chris_ »

Hi all, in MMG4, about 13,000 tracks and I had to change the folder names slightly, but now the tracks don't play in the playlists, what's the quickest way to solve it please?

Naturally, MM will be unable to find tracks if you change the path, even in the slightest, outside of MM. Select the files you want MM to find and use File-->Locate Moved/Missing FIles. If you ever need to change the path again, use Tools-->Auto-Organize Files, where you can choose new paths. Instructions for how to use it are available through MM Help.

Thanks, in: Select the files you want MM to find and use File-->Locate Moved/Missing FIles. - is that in playlist view? I ask, because playing the tracks within the folders themselves is no problem, but can't in the playlists?

Yes, you need to select the files that have the incorrect Path in MediaMonkey. That can be in a Playlist or any other Library node. Then use File > Located Moved/Missing Files: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index. ... sing_Files or https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... n+database

Thank you, I am struggling a little, as I'm not very techie :-( Just to clarify further:
in the *playlists*, the tracks have within the folder names:
twospacesonehyphentwospaces, so -
In the actual folders where the tracks are (about 20 folders with about 13,000 tracks), the folders have been changed so that the folder names now contain onespacehypenonespace, so -
How can I change them please?

You can use Locate Moved/Missing Files for that.

Note, in the future you may want to use MediaMonkey to rename folders/files so that this problem doesn't occur.

How precisely do you do that please?

Did you read the link that explains Locate Moved/Missing Files?

As I say, I'm not very techie, but if you mean this below - there's about 6,000 tracks involved!

'Tracks can easily be renamed by clicking the Filename or Path column for any Track in the Track list, and then changing the filename.

Alternatively, Tracks can be renamed from within the Track Properties dialog.'

If you want to rename a lot of files I suggest Tools > Auto-Organize Files where you set a Mask of how the folders/files should be renamed.

Masks: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index. ... ormats/4.0

Make sure you always verify the proposed changes before applying!

Apologies, and I do appreciate your help, but those masks all seem to be relating to filenames - as mentioned, this is for folder names.

It's for both.

eg.

M:\Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track#>. <Artist> - <Title> creates both folders and the filename from the tags.

Thanks for persevering with this, so for example, how do I get it the many 1,000's from:
M:\Music\Tested - Fast<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track#>. <Artist> - <Title>
To:
M:\Music\Tested - Fast<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track#>. <Artist> - <Title>

After posting the above, I can see that the forum has closed up the spaces - in the relevant first line, there's two spaces before and after the hyphen and in the second relevant line, there's just one space on either side of the hyphen.

Use that Mask with Auto-Organize Files on the files that need to be renamed. You may be missing a \ between Fast and <Album Artist>! Verify the changes in the Auto-Organize Files window before applying to make sure that they match your needs.
