Easiest way to download music artwork?

Post by LesCM19 »

Method 1: shift & Enter, click Artwork tab, click Lookup Artwork icon seems to find the right album cover almost immediately.
Method 2: ctrl & L takes ages and often can't find the album at all, let alone artwork.

Is there a shortcut or script to bypass the steps in method 1 and just go direct to the Lookup Artwork function for the selected album?

You have auto-lookup available that will automatically lookup for the playing file if it doesn't have Artwork associated (no user interaction required).

Right click on Art & Details window and select Edit Artwork Properties is quicker. You can choose to set the window to Now Playing or Selected. View > Properties will keep the window open while allowing you to select different files in the Filelisting.

It only does it for the playing file if it has no Artwork. It does depend on tags being known (Album and Album Artist).

Album & Album Artist fields have been entered; doesn't download when I play.
Tried the Discogs script, need watch out for tracks being mis-named so I'm just doing it manually :D

Thanks for all the information in this thread, makes my life much easier.
I have 2 questions left, hope you can see the screenshots:

1. After using the above mentioned "Lookup Artwork" icon, not only the artwork is updated. Also small additional changes in ID3v2.3 are done, and many data is also copied in ID3v1. My goal was to only update the cover artwork. Screenshot shows the changes, the updated file on the right side.

2. Using tagging from internet with Discogs:
a. If i would use "Deselect all" and select "Save Cover" only, i think i have also to unselect manually all checkboxes under "Release Information"... would this then only update the cover page ?
b. There are two files displayed at the bottom of the page, showing slightly different information in "Interpret" and "Album Interpret", but pointing to the same physical file on drive G:. How do i have to deal with this?

I would be very happy to get some knowledge about these points.

Anytime MediaMonkey updates a tag in the file all tags are updated. This can't be changed.

Artist (Interprid) and Album Artist (Album Interpret) are 2 different fields which are both used by MediaMonkey. Artist is/are the Artist(s) performing the Track (including featured Artists) whereas the Album Artist is the Artist the Album belongs to. MediaMonkey uses the combination of Album and Album Artist to define what Tracks belong to an Album (thus Album Artist needs to be the same for all Tracks on an Album, but Artist can be different).

Thank you for the answer.

- if MM updates always all tags.... so what are the checkboxes in the second screenshot for ?
- about the 2 files displayed at the bottom of the second screenshot: Why are they displayed and what should i do with that selection ? I simply do not understand how to work with that screen...

Hi,
- Check marks are there for selection on what will be overwritten with presented information
- Files presented in Preview are there so that in case Auto recognition/pair with found info has failed that you can manually edit/assign/correct so it can be tagged and it will not tag those unselected if you are not satisfied with change in BLUE

By Whole tag we mean that existing tag is recreated and saved in full according to selection and then put back in file tag.

Thanks for your help...
That means, when i deselect all items and only select "Save Cover" then everthing else will not be touched and only the cover is added to the tag-area ? So i could use "Deselect all" and "Save Cover" to only add cover to the tag ?
The two lines at the bottom of the screen, you call that "preview"? Why do i have 2 lines there, i do only have one file in that area with only one title ?

I always download it manually from one of the high quality album art sites.

The other option is to scan and edit it yourself.

So, if you only select the cover to be saved none of the other information found in that window will be saved to the files (tags updated), however all database values shown in MediaMonkey are updated.

Files are shown twice to show the changes that will be made (showing old and new value).
