Album art resizing after startup

After the last testing update (I'm on 2024.0.0.3034) I am getting a return of an old problem, whereby the album art, which I use in a large panel on the left hand side, isn't retaining its size after re-start (it shrinks). You can also duplicate the affect by resizing the main view album list (Grid (By Album)) via <ctrl-mouse wheel> at which time the large album art panel will start to jump around in size, forcing the album list to also jump around in size. Then, when you have it as you like it, on re-launch, the album art will have shrunk and the album list grid will also appear in a different size to which you left it.
This is making MM5 just about unusable for me.

Thanks for letting us know. Note that the only Album Art fix in build 3035 was https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=21071 . It's possible that the problem occurred for you because MM crashed and because of that, didn't save a recently modified config setting

This is still happening. It's very annoying and frustrating. Any update on why or if it can be fixed?

Does this happen on a clean install (you can test with a Portable Install in a separate location)?

Yes it does happen on any install. Here are my thoughts and observations of what is happening and how I can mostly mitigate the problem.
It seems to come down to the size of the "Restore Down Window", the view where you see MM in a floating window. If the Restore Down Window is much smaller than the maximised window, shutting down MM (even in maximised view), will, when MM is restarted, default the Preview (album art) window to what it was in the Restore Window view. Even if it opens maximised.
I can get around the problem by making the Restore Down Window almost the same size as the maximised window.

There is a video I uploaded somewhere in this post, showing the effect. Where I had posted recently that it had been fixed, I didn't realise that the Restore Down Window effect was taking place.

Basically, MM restores the preview panel to whatever the size was of the Restore Down Window was when closed.

So, what you're looking for is an independent width & height setting for the side panels for Maximized and non-Maximized MediaMonkey window? Currently they're not independent (ie. adjusting things in 1 affects the other).

That's how it works in other music managers such as Musicbee and Foobar. But I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that the Preview window stays as it was in the maximised view instead of reverting to whatever the restored window size was that I wasn't even using at the time. What do you think? I can carry on with my "fix" of setting the restore window to full screen size. I can manage with that for now. At least I now know what the problem is and I can kind of fix it.

I'm struggling with reproducing the problem in the first place. Whatever adjustments I make in either maximized or non-maximized state affect the other, and are remembered over restart. At no point does it revert to some previous state (from a previous window size) as changing the settings in either applies to both.

Tested on the latest 3040 build with default Skin.

I think you have to close it in non-maximised state and then open it and maximise it. I can do a video of it happening again if you want. Procedure is:
1) open and set up a maximised window with the album art/preview panel window showing at max depth.
2) Restore (non-maximised) the whole MM window to about a quarter of the screen to see the effect fully
3) Close MM from the non maximised window
4) Re open MM. It should remember the non max window and open to that size.
5) Maximise the window and the preview/album art panel will stay at the size it was when non-maximised.

Note: In step 2), I say restore down the window to a quarter of the screen size only to emphasise the effect. Whatever size you make the non-minimised window, the panel will be affected, unless you make it roughly the same size as the maximised window.

You don't need to close for this. MediaMonkey always uses last known size. So if you make the window smaller to the point it resizes the side panels, this is the new setting.

Yes. But it resizes to the small size even after you've maximised the window, adjusted the art to full size and close MM.
When you re-load, it loads maximised but with the smaller preview panel. Surely it should remember the state in which it was closed?

I knew this would happen... I can't reproduce it at the moment. You'll all think I'm raving mad. I'm thinking it may be down to a specific set of circumstances that I haven't figured out yet. I'll make a video when it happens again. Thanks for all your time Lowlander and Rusty. Hopefully it'll happen again soon and I can post a new video.
