I don't follow your instruction to show the dead links. Can you clarify? Thanks.

Now that you've given me the basics on the media tree I can see to right click and " remove".

If enabled, Dead Links can be found under any collection in the tree.
If not already enabled, go to File > Manage Collections > find collection (double-click it) > check "Files to Edit" under Nodes tab > ok

Try it on the collection Entire Library > Files to Edit > Dead Links
This will show you files that are in the database but missing from a "previous" location because they, likely, were improperly moved.

You can try updating or removing based on the results.

OK, Got it. That's a very useful feature, thanks!

Semi-related question: If I change an album name or album artist in the properties window it looks like the change isn't reflected in the file path, whereas I think it does if I use the "rename" function by right clicking in the media tree. If I have albums where the album or album artist doesn't match the file path, is there a good way to find those and clean up the discrepancy?

When you open properties dialog, if you are trying to change the name of the album from the album field, it doesn't work that way.
If you want an element of the path to be changed, you must do it from the File Path field at the top of properties (note - you don't need to redo the whole
thing, just the target element). You can also change individual track paths from file list via in-line edit. However, these methods can leave empty folders,
as it replaces them into the new path name.

You could also move them outside of MM with MM running. Although, I wouldn't recommend this until you've had lots of experience moving files various ways,
as it can cause other issues. There are other things to have to pay attention to.

I would recommend using using Auto-Organize. All you need to make sure of is that your destination is set correctly and your tags aren't off in the slightest (even
for a single track) Also, it can be set to automatically delete empty folders. I recommend you set your music drive or specific folder to be monitored "continuously",
if not already.

If you want to change a a track's metadata/tag, you do it from it's specific field.

If you are trying to correct variations in the metadata/tag info, it's easier (as they are almost always right next to each other). You could just use the tree
to see if there are multiple, but varied, instances of the same artist or album name or an add-on like Tag Inconsistencies or "maybe" Advanced duplicate find and Fix.

However, the structure is harder. But you could use variances in different field categories as clues to possible variances in your folder structure.
Look for them in the tree, then look at their path. It won't expose all of them (not necessarily any of them) but it's a start.

You could just "eye" them outside of MM. That's usually what I do. It would be easier if you have everything in a single folder
as opposed to several top levels and/or an extreme amount of subs.

As a side note - there is Auto-tag from Filename (path). But that's the reverse of what you want, and your paths would need to be correct, already.

If you want file Paths to be update on tag edits use Tools > Options > Auto-Organize. Once that is setup the Files to Edit > Unsynchronized Tags node would show any files that don't match the Mask you've setup in Auto-Organize.

Lowlander makes a great suggestion.
And it will help to prevent issues from here on out.

But keep in mind, It doesn't help much if you "only" want to check through/skim the way it is currently.

Unless, you are willing to redo your entire library that way. Then, it would be "assured" to be correct, but it would need to be set up
correctly (all tags correct, destination(s)), as suggested previously.

Just so I'm clear, using this would apply to future edits or files brought into MMW, but would not flag existing files with discrepancies in tags vs file paths?

It would automatically apply to future edits/newly scanned files. It would flag existing files (not update them) under Files to Edit > Unsynchronized Tags. At which point you can run Tools > Auto-Organize Files on those to update them as well.

I personally prefer manual control thus do have the Auto-Organize rule set (so I can use Files to Edit > Unsynchronized Tags), but not have it run automatically and then always manually run Auto-Organize Files on selected files. Based on my normal workflow this works well and allows me to see what MediaMonkey will change.

Yes, just run Unsynchronized Files first. On your files that are already in the library.
It will alert you to discrepancies. Then you could Auto-Organize them according to path appropriate mask.

Realize, if you don't have a very large library, it should go fairly smoothly. However, if it's fairly large and you have a lot of
discrepancies showing up, you might want to save the Unsynchronized file list to a playlist or temp coll. (with designated note/id ("unsych") in empty field).
That way you don't have to do it all at once if you don't want to. The problem is, if you click off of "Unsych" list real quick to come right back to it, you
have to run it again (is slow if library is large)

Thanks for the suggestions. I've followed them to create an auto organize rule: \\10.0.0.11\Public\Shared Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track#> - <Title>

I must be doing to something wrong though because when I go to the unsynched tags node it finds only two tracks (out of over 1500 albums worth), which, as far as I can tell follow the exact format above, and match the properties. Incidentally, when I went to this node before creating any rule, it found only the same two tracks. But I am aware of at least a few albums where the album artist in the path doesn't match the album artist in the properties, in all the tracks, and the software doesn't find any of those. Further, if I select one of those albums or tracks and try to use Tools>auto organize, the proposed new paths match the existing, incorrect paths.

What am I missing?

Auto-Organize has a Rule for organization and to which files this applies. Make sure you set it to the correct files (like Collection or Playlist)

In the rule window I have the box checked next to Collections and it only finds the same 2 tracks.

Try to select a specific Collection (like Entire Library or Music) instead of Collections. Does that resolve the problem?

Yeah I checked all the sub folders before running the scan. Actually I did it a couple times because when I go back to that window each time the the selections are blank so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem but something isn't working...
