Why waste more time on Apple when there are so many obstacles in the way? Please just finish the Debian port and let Apple catch up when it suits them. Meanwhile I'm more or less locked out of my media collection while it languishes in chains under Micro$oft 10/11.

I'd definitely renew my Gold licence for another $30 or so if it means I get all the MM functionality back.

I just don't see this ever happening for the fact that it's just not a profitable venture. To see this actually happen it would have to be a passion project of one of the devs that have abandoned winblows themselves and want it working for themselves. Otherwise the economics probably don't make sense. Otherwise if Delphi can't get it done even for an impassioned developer, they would have to either fork it to another language just for Linux, or rebuild the entire code base to a more cross compatible language. Neither are sensible for short term profitability, though I believe it could eventually pay off.

I've monitored this thread for years out of a morbid hope to the contrary, but I just don't see it happening. :\

Hi Peke,
Not exactly sure what you were linking to, but I always appreciate you staying connected to this thread.

I've pretty much abandoned MM since it doesn't work on Linux, or on my Android phone without Google services. I run GrapheneOS precisely to keep Google out of my life. I do keep a tablet in my shop that's still running MM, but it doesn't get used that often. I've just become resigned to the fact there are big sacrifices that have to be made when you choose non mainstream platforms, but the upsides outweigh the inconveniences for me. I just make do with decent alternatives. They certainly aren't as polished and capable as MM, but they can get the job done.

I will of course continue to monitor this thread, but it's just felt like this hasn't really moved in years which led to my recent post.
🤞

Amazon Version of MMA do not need Google services and even we do not supply download URL it can be side loaded.

I really wish that many more devices supports de google.

I love the idea of MMS running on my NAS, even if my only Linux client is a web browser for a while. Assuming the functionality is similar, I'm flexible on the user experience - I really want to get rid of the Windows VM running just for MM!

However, I'm given pause by the disclaimers about the alpha state, along with no updates in 3.5 years. Is MMS still under active development and working towards a release state?

Hey there,

Unfortunately no, as far as I can see MMS hasn't really been touched in a while. I've personally wanted to get back into it eventually, but I can't speak for the other devs regarding how much interest there is in resuming development on the project.

I uploaded many addons to MM's addon page, but not all of those were created by me. "By drakinite, Submitted by drakinite" means I made it on my own time. "By Ventis Media, Inc., Submitted by drakinite" means it may have been made by me or another MediaMonkey developer, so instead of crediting/thanking me, please thank the team. You can still ask me for support on any of our addons.

I put my step-father onto MM years and years ago and he absolutely loves it. He's desperate to move away from Windows but is autistic and cannot see a future without MM so he's completely stuck. I've tried him on linux alternatives such as Strawberry or Clementine but just can't switch.
This thread makes me believe he may be stuck on Windows forever.

Maybe run windows as a virtual machine within Linux...

I would like to start a small survey:
Who of you would like a MediaMonkey version for Linux?
Since I don't know how the development team stands on this question and whether they would be able to do it at all and have the appropriate resources at their disposal, this survey is to be considered hypothetical.
I've been wanting this for years now. I too have been unsuccessful at installing it with WINE. My old Windows computer that runs MM now (which I have to remote into from my main computer) won't last forever, and I will not be buying anything new with Windows.

YES PLEASE! The only reason I keep having to boot to Windows is that I have hundreds of hours invested in tagging, ranking, and grouping an extensive library. I've never been able to transport that database over to any Linux install in any functional way, though admittedly I gave up a couple of years ago, after several years of "Linux RSN!" promises.

"Works almost perfectly well here." is ... almost good enough.

Seems to me like the cleaner, simpler path would be to focus on a fully functional Linux build first, as it's unburdened by Apple's ... issues. It's also clearly a growing market, given how horridly invasive w11 has become.

Actually, the Mac version is almost ready for a pre-release (probably just a few days). Not sure yet re. timing of a Linux build, but we'll definitely look into it then.

Yeah, you definitely should. For there definitely is a market. Which, as long as Microsoft is keeping up with their BS, is definitely growing ;)

Frankly, MediaMonkey is the ONLY thing I miss from Microsoft :D

ACTUALLY, you already owe me 2 gold licenses (other than my own), who as of now only stick to Microslop for their MediaMonkey Lifetime license.
Which they'd gratefully repay to be able to FINALLY ditch Windows (as do I) ;)
