Can I use MM and import from my Ipod touch 2G to the netbook?

I have gone through the process in iTunes to use MM to load mp3 files onto my Touch.
While in MM, the program shows the Touch has the files transfered from the library to the Touch.
When I disconnect the Touch and attempt to play music on the Touch, it says that there is no music to play.
Back in MM, looking at the Touch library, the path for a given mp3 file is: \iTunes_Control\Music\F12\Gene.mp3
How can I get my Touch to recognize the files when it isn't connected to my pc and MM?
...edit....
Some more info:
I found the following here: If MediaMonkey is synching to the iPod in a manner that may not
be compatible with more recent versions of iPod firmware. To solve
this, go to the iPod Device Configuration panel (Tools | Options |
Portable/Audio Devices | iPod | Configure), and then under
'Compatibility Settings' enable 'Force iTunes-style Folders'.
I tried doing this. I got as far as the configure part, but there was no 'compatibility settings' or 'enable itunes style folder' option.
Also, when I went to portable/audio device, there were 4 listings of my Touch.
i get this with the 2.2.1 firmware, but turning the ipod touch off and back on again, (Long press on the top left button then slide to tun off) the ipod then detects the new music. Before this if you try to read the music in itunes it says that itunes cannot read the database and prompts you to restore. Still don't get any album art though

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
Alright, my fingers are on the edge of bleeding from my Google and forum searches and still no dice... Please help me retire iTunes...
I have a brand new shiny iPod classic. Plugged it into iTunes and the database crashed once again!!!
So I found MediaMonkey and thought my hopes had been answered
After several weeks of tinkering with various Scripts and tag editting I thought I was ready to make the big step to converting this (not the iPhone yet... baby steps) and happily removing it from the newest Microsoft/Telecom/you name it monopoly, Apple iTunes and help the competition a bit whilst gaining a superior product
However synching my iPod to MediaMonkey has proven quite a challenge. I have followed the guides found online including the one that this forum refers to, the music is synching. Just not all of it...
All of my files are in .mp3 format, even the ones bought through iTunes have been converted one way or another.
I am trying to synch playlists vs. genres, artists or albums and I get the same issue all 'round
I am seeing all of the playlists but when I compare them from MediaMonkey the number of files are considerably reduced (258 songs on iPod and 362 on MediaMonkey)
I am using MediaMonkey version 3.0.7.1191 gold
I am using the latest version of firmware for the iPod
I am using Vista
The MediaMonkey DB is on a NAS so not stored on the local machine (as this is a shared resource I need to keep it that way)
The iPod has 18.3 gb of free space but shows this as it's "About"
Audio roughly 50% of the current capacity
Other roughly 30% of the current capacity (anyone know what "other" would be?)
I have reset the iPod to factory defaults 4 or 5 times now and tried from Scratch each time (sometimes only trying to copy 1 playlist to see if that were the issue)
No luck,
Anyone have any suggestions or are they seeing the same issue?
Please help!
Thanks

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
Thanks for the guide, it all worked fine until I formatted my pc.
Now my pc shuts down during the synchronization. I tried almost everything I read in the forums but it still does it. That's really sad. I posted a message describing what happens a few days ago on another thread so I'll just paste it again in here:
I was answering to this message:
Do I really have to give up and deal with the older version of MM?

Problem with copying file C:\<file path/filename.mp3> to E:\iPod_COntrol\Music\F21\<abbreviated filename.mp3>
I am then prompted to click either Cancel, Retry or Ignore
If I click Retry, sometimes it takes 2 to 10 times, but it appears to transfer. Are these caused by incompatible file types? If it is just a matter of Retrying several times, could that be scripted? Or could MM be shoving data at my iPod faster than it can be written?
I am a new user of MM and purchased the full version. I love it so far, with this minor exception.
Thanks for any input!
Unfortunately version 3.0.7.1191 buggines was really pissing me off so I uninstalled it and reinstalled the new one, but my pc kept crashing again. Then I uninstalled the latest itunes version to install this one, but still nothing. It usually shuts down after the 50th file, around that number anyway. It's not always the same file that kills everything. It seems to synchronize fine when I just use itunes or yamipod. I am not autosynchronizing, I select files from a playlist and press the ipod button.gypsy_eyes1982 wrote:I get this error using MM version 3.1.0.1256 and uploading mp3s to an ipod nano 4g.
It started to happen after I formatted my pc and reinstalled mediamonkey and itunes.
I had the same version of MM before the format and it worked fine, while I'm pretty sure I updated my itunes version.
I don't get to click any cancel or retry button, my pc shuts down about 2 seconds after the message appears.
I completely removed MM and installed version 3.0.7.1191 wich seems to do the job altough it's a lil buggy in general.
I hope you will find out what the problem is and fix this in the next versions. Or maybe it's just a problem of my pc configuration. I have no idea, I just hope it'll get worked out soon
Do I really have to give up and deal with the older version of MM?

Hey,
I would like to ask, whether it is possible to synchronize ratings back from my ipod (nano last gen) to my library while using manual synchronization...?
I have a feeling that it does sometimes sync, but I would like to know how to do it, where is the point...
Thanks for any reply..

No, you have to use auto-sync.BadaJr wrote:Hey,

Sure, happy to help. If you think about it, auto-sync has to be required for sync-back of information... because only with auto-sync is a link kept between the original file in your library and the file on your device. With manual sync it is just a blind copy.BadaJr wrote:Well, that is unlucky. At least Mediamonkey is not absolutely perfect...

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
Hi there!
I have an ipod classic 6th Gen 80 GB. I started having problems with Winamp cause all of a sudden upon adding a big load of music (complete albums) it started to overwrite old music that I already had there. So every now and then I had to check for the replaced files and fix them (with the fear of overwriting others in the process), and it's certainly a hassle when I have more than 3000 mp3's... One more detail, almost 80% of the music in my ipod is NOT in my computer, so I just liked the fact that I was able to drag and drop onto winamp at will, without using computer space.
So I downloaded MM and decided to check it out.
I am trying to add music to my ipod but I'm terrified of the word "synch", since with itunes it means replacing every file that is NOT in my computer. But I cannot find an option in MM that will actually let me add new music from anywhere (even music not in my computer) without modifying *anything* that I already have in there (not even re-tagging, cause I tried to add one single file with itunes one time and it started to retag my whole collection messing up my files... idk if i did something wrong anyway...), such as I used to do with winamp (without the overwriting thingy of course).
I tried adding one album to MM's library, but I had to click "synch" I suppose and I basically have no idea what this is going to do.
Will this erase/modify/retag what's already there?
Could you shed some light on this for me?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
With MM open, press the F1 key. This will open the help file and there you can read about the different syncing options.

Yeah, I thought it works somehow like this. :(
My only hope was that I thought that MAYBE if I will manually synchronize something what is already on my Ipod, it will compare it and then change the older one or smth like that. That is, as I guess, not possible.
Well, than I just need to copy my ratings, then...:(
Thanks again.

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
I've got a classic 80gb iPod.
It used to be synced with my desktop computer, but i managed to sync it to my new laptop before last xmas, then my computer got a virus and everything had to be deleted and i forgot my itunes password. Either way, my itunes won't sync my iPod anymore.
I downloaded media monkey and i attempted to sync it follwing the steps in your guid, but it just completely wiped everything off my ipod.
WHY?! WHAT DO?!

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
Because 'sync' in this context means sync with the MM library. So changes from the MM library are mirrored on the device/iPod (one way).Bobalu wrote:I've got a classic 80gb iPod.

If you need to retrieve tracks from an iPod, you should read this:

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
I followed your guide trying to keep iTunes from wiping the songs from my iPhone, but no luck. I have the latest beta of MM and 3.1.2 iPhone firmware. I have no problem loading songs to the phone with MM, but whenever I sync (mainly for backup and firmware updates), since I don't have any songs in my iTunes library, all the music on my phone gets wiped clean. Essentially, I want to use MM to manage my music and use iTunes for backup and updates. Do you know of any way to keep iTunes from erasing my music (without having to add the music to the iTunes library)?
Thanks for taking the time to write the guide, and being willing to answer these questions.

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
You need "Manually manage music" checked. I have it set that way on my PC, it works fine for syncing here. If it doesn't work for you, then I'm sorry, I really don't know.slovey wrote:since I don't have any songs in my iTunes library, all the music on my phone gets wiped clean.
