Re: android
I have to add my vote here, too. When i first got my Android phone, my biggest worry was that I'd never find a media manager as good as iTunes to manage my huge music collection. I finally found Media Monkey and was ecstatic when I uninstalled iTunes. MM seems to have all the same features - not quite as easy to use, perhaps, but not impossible either. It seems everything is in there if you know where to look.
The one thing I didn't even consider was syncing. It seemed such an obvious and basic feature that I didn't look into it, I just assumed that there would be plenty of good desktop apps and phone apps that I'd have my choice of easy ways to sync. Imagine my horror on discovering that, basically, the Android phone is dumb dumb dumb when it comes to this stuff. It just presents you with a drive and says "copy stuff on here if you want". There's no two-way communication at all. I don't get updated play counts or "last played" dates. I can't change ratings. Nothing. MM does a fine job of "dump this bunch of files onto the drive", but after that, there's no route back. I don't even know if it does a true "sync" of files - as in, removes ones that you've deleted form the playlist or library, and copying over new one. At least, when I pick "sync" on a big playlist that's already been synced once, it seems to copy over every file a second time with no regard to whether it's on there or not. I could be wrong about that, but that's what it *looks* like. Also, while MM has a fin Podcast manager, there is no option to "sync podcasts". To get podcasts on my phone, I had to manually make a playlist and sync that.
MM, if there's one HUGE suggestion/request I could make, it's either make your own Android media players that syncs with MM desktop, or work with another developer to include support. For someone with as much music as I have, and as many podcasts, it's looking like I'm going to have to spend a LOT of time manually arranging, copying, deleting, and syncing my file. As far as I can tell that's the ONE huge area where my old iPhone kicked ass over my Droid phone.

Re: android
you aren't wrong. The lack of support in MM is really annoying AND bizarre. If it supported Android by default (which it could easily do with a standard way of working that could be implemented by android app devs) then it'd be the one and only option and would increase MM pro sales massively.
I'd like to hear the reasoning from the MM devs for not implementing this. Unfortunately they don't appear to respond (or read) these forums?
I have adjusted a last.fm script to collect my most recently scrobbled plays and update the MM database, so I can register mobile play counts and merge them back in to the MM database. This at least gets me half way to what I want. There is a thread somewhere on these forums detailing that but i've not got permission from the original author to release it (he's away travelling apparently)
In all honesty, I simply don't have the time to invest in this project. I'm not even sure it CAN work correctly without being built into the MM codebase directly as we need to hook into the sync process which (as i understand) can't be done via the scripting engine.
Can we get an official response to this please? If you know the devs and are reading this, can you give them a nudge?
If you have experience of MM dev and could execute this on the MM side, I can provide input on the android side.. please consider helping.

Re: android
I just noticed that our cash strapped local public library have developed an Android application that gives complete access to you library account information, as well as the ability to browse and reserve items through the library catalog.
If they can do it, I am sure that it is possible for the MM developers as well.
The ability to sync information between the two is increasingly important as people switch from Itunes.

Re: android
I've asked the same question elsewhere. I also would love to see real syncronization between MM and my Android phone.
While MM is great (so far), if someone else gets their act together and creates a good link between Android and their own media player, MM is going to lose a huge chunk of market share. On the other hand, if MM creates a good linkage between Android and MM, then there is a very large potential increase in market share available. However, as I assumed "elsewhere," this may require that MM make a music player for Android; the existing ones are not that good and don't support ratings, playcounts, etc. (Yes, using last.fm is a creative and impressive workaround. But a native solution seems like a better idea.)

Someone has got their act together, unfortunately it only works with i-tunes. Download isyncr from android apps and you get 2 way full sync with ratings, play count, last played etc.
If only MM did this...
Re: android
we are wasting our time even posting on these damn forums.
I bought a lifetime licence for MM years ago and thanks to their complete refusal to support android, I'm going to have to look into alternatives as this debacle is destroying my play stats.
Unfortunately that alternative equates to the use of iTunes. I hate apple, their products and specifically itunes................
<thinks for 10 seconds>
NO. i wont do it, i'll just have to do without and move files manually.
Why won't any of the devs answer?

Re: android
The problem remains that Android doesn't support this out of the box. This means an Android application would be required and that is a whole new ball game. In my opinion that would eat up way to many resources that are better spend on MediaMonkey itself.

Re: android
The main reason for silence is that MM 4.0 have changed behavior with generic devices that uses USBMass plugin which mean that we do not know what to answer exactly.
Changes should affect Android platform, but like it was told in few other posts devs of Android player should contact us for help which we would gladly give and had in the past with various devs that showed interest in MM.

Re: android
In case you missed it, Winamp just released a beta Android app. It looks pretty cool. Perhaps MM can glean some ideas from it?

Re: android
Am I missing something?
Media monkey seems to be the best pc based music management tool available.
Android outsells Apple stuff.
The way itunes links with iPhone etc is pretty slick.
The way media monkey links with Android phone is 1 way and clunky.
Please can we have a media monkey Android client. I would happily pay $10

Re: android
I have a ton of music and I don't know which set of it I want to listen. What I would like to do is to be able to create playlists on my PC and then only transfer that list to my Android device. That way i can create subsets of my music and take what I want. I don't know how you guys can carry a small subset of your music on your mobile devices. Or am I missing something here?
When I am at home, I have 2 nice options to listen music from and I don't really care about wifi streaming (Audiogalaxy has an app out for that).

Re: android
Ok, so do it then. You can set that up easily using the auto-sync list in your device options.ashwinmudigonda wrote:What I would like to do is to be able to create playlists on my PC and then only transfer that list to my Android device. This looks very promising. Winamp also works with lossless formats, so I am thinking this should be a good choice for Media Player from now on. Gotta say I am disappointed in MM for totally dropping the Android folks from consideration.
