OK so this looks just the script for me.
Trouble is, I downloaded the installer, ran it, MM said it installed OK (3.2.0.1294) but where do I find it in the menus to run?
File > Create Reports does not have it listed, neither does Tools > Scripts

Sorry for such a newbie q, but I haven't found anything in the forum that helps me.

cheers

David

Partial update, after running the install nothing was visible in MM but a .vbs file was in the scripts folder, so I edited the scripts.ini file to include
[AdvancedReport]
FileName=AdvancedReport.vbs
ProcName=AdvancedReport
Order=6
DisplayName=Advanced Report
Description=Advanced Report in HTML
Language=VBScript
ScriptType=1

and now it seems to be working.

Thank you! I'm still enjoying this script.

I have one more question. Is there any reason why a rewrite of the old report won't work? I want to keep the report output on a server and then just overwrite it whenever my music library changes. Or would it be better to fully delete the old report output before generating a new report to the same output path?

@massedgadget - this means that the Scripts.ini file is not being updated correctly, possibly a permissions problem.

@gpzbc - no you should be able to overwrite a previous report without any problems. If you've lost artists/albums then you might have a few orphan files, but this won't cause a problem. Everything else should get overwritten - this is what I do.

Tried this script today works great,
Is there a way to change the font and text size in the report?

Yes, click the "Edit CSS" button and then edit the stylesheet.

I'm really enjoying this script, but I'm wondering if I can make a request for the next version. Can you add an option to show the "Original Year" as well as the "Year"? I'm not talking about in the album mask or in the track mask, but rather the option to show it in the song list. Similar to the way that you currently have the option to show the genre and the year.
Thanks so much for your scripting work.

I assume you mean the list of years at the top of the album/artist? Do you want it included in the current list, or as a separate list?

Yeah, that is sort of what I mean. I don't actually use the option to show the year on the artist page which shows all of the albums, but I use it on the album page which shows all of the tracks.
Here is an example: I recently purchased the Beatles Box Set where all of their albums were remastered in stereo. So in MM, I listed the year as 2009, but I listed the original year as 1969. But if I generate a report, it shows the year as 2009. So this is my workaround.

But the more I think about this, I'm not sure how you could effectively implement this idea. I don't have the "original year" filled in on every album. That means that most albums would end up with a -1 in the original year field.
I don't know.....

Only think I can think to do is combine the list so you'd get "1969, 2009" - would this be of any help?

Yeah, that could help. Especially if we had the option to show a label which differentiated the two. So something like Original Year: 1969, Year: 2009.
But what happens if the original date field is blank? Is it going to show up as -1? If so, I probably would opt not to use it because I wouldn't want 2/3 of my library showing an original year of -1.

I guess I am just thinking out loud, but the more I think about this, the less I like it.
Perhaps it would be better to have the option to show the Original Date in the Album Mask? That way, it might be possible to apply a conditional mask. Something like: "$If(<Original Date>,<Original Date>,)<Date>"

I'll have a play and see what I can come up with in the next version.

Thanks. It's not big deal either way. I was just brainstorming.

I'm sorry to keep bothering you with questions, but I have another one...

I've chosen to show the album description below the album art. But I can't seem to figure out how to make the description respect a width boundary. This results in some descriptions carrying on for much wider than they should and pushing all other albums further to the right. Here is an example:
Image
As you can see, this Otis Reding list of albums would look much nicer if I could force the album descriptions to stay within a certain boundary.
Is there a way to make the album description stay within a certain width? If my icons are set at 150, I'd think that it could work to keep the title within 200.

Second question: I'm wondering if there is a way to put a larger space in between the track title and the artist name. You can see in this example what I mean.
Image
I'm not a big fan of the way that the title runs right up against the artist name.

Thanks so much!
