Bought a New Laptop and want to migrate MM4 over. Copying files now to a back up. Can I still download MM4 and install that on the new PC, copy the MMDB to the new PC and begin work or do I have to install MM5 on the new PC?
I would rather stick with MM4 for now.
NEVERMIND.........I HAVE WINDOWS 11 SO I HAVE TO USE MM5. HOPE THE MIGRATION IS THE SAME
Thanks.

MediaMonkey 4 can still be
downloaded, but has not been tested with Windows 11.
You can
take the MediaMonkey 4 database to MediaMonkey 5.

So my new laptop is a Windows 11 OS. I only have MM5 installed. I copied and saved the MM4 .ini and MM.DB but could not find the MM cache file even with show Hidden Files. Regardless, When I first loaded MM5, It found my music with no problem. My issue is I have no playlists copied over so I played with the .INI file and messed it up so a few questions:
1. Can I still get my MM4 playlist copied over to a new computer with only MM5 installed? If so how please? DO I modify the .INI to point to my music before I open MM5?
2. I can't seem to figure out where to put my MM.DB that is renamed to MM5.DB. I had it in the MM5 folder but still didn't get my playlists as i thought my playlists were in the MM.DB. Is that wrong? If so, Where are the playlists stored? I uninstalled MM5 from the new computer and started over and now it does not see my music. I suspect because the old .INI file was not deleted from the MM5 folder?
3. Do I need a MM4 folder to place the .ini and MM.DB in for MM5 to grab the files? Do I need to install MM4 on the new computer with Windows 11 even though it is not yet compatible ?
Thanks.

Playlists are in the database file, thus you need to make sure you
copy that over to MediaMonkey 5:

Okay but where or what directory in MM5 do I copy the MM.db file to? MM4 is on my old computer (windows 10) and MM5 is on my new computer (windows 11).
Sorry to be thick

So can I assume that wherever you state Windows 10, Windows 11 is implied?
I am trying to load MM5 under Windows 11 to a new computer.

MM5 is seems to be hung but task manager is showing active and getting cpu's.
My .ini was modified to DBName=C:\xxxxxxx\xxxxxx.Music.
Is Music supposed to be MM5? Upon Execution the .ini was changed to MM5 and MM5 App does not launch. I just get the First page of the MediaMonkey Logo. My DB is about 140 Gig so is it just processing?
This is my first execution of MM5 since installing and changing the .ini file to add DBName.
One more thing. My Windows 11 MM5 Music DB is now on my local C: drive and on my old computer in MM4 it wasoint MM5 on my E: drive. Maybe I am missing how to point MM5 to my new drive. Do I have to rescan? If so then what about all of my playists? I've tried everything.
Thanks

I recommend using the MM4 DB in the default location for the MM5 DB. Then start MM5 and have it upgrade the database. You then should be able to move the new MM5.db to any location you prefer and use DBName to redirect to it.

I moved my MM4 database and ini files to my users/mediamonkey/Roaming directory. My new music db is on C:\Users\Shaka\Music. When I launce MM4, I get an error that my "C:\Users\Shaka\Music can't be opened. Would you like to create a new local library". The system part of my ini file looks like:
[System]
DBName=C:\Users\Shaka\Music
Skinned=1
JustInstalled=0
NeedsFileAssocOnNextRun=0
IniVersion=107
LockCoverWindowAspectRatio=1
CurrentAspectRatio=1.64285714285714
LastVideoMode=1
PreviousVideoMode=3
SubtitlesSize=2
Trying to get MM4 to work on my new computer so that MM5 will install my MM4 settings. HELP!

Thanks.

Okay, I installed MM4 and Managed to get my music database recognized on my new Windows 11 laptop. I exported my Playlists (M3U) from my old MM4 and Imported them (M3U) into MM4 Windows 11. The tool imported all of the playlists but a playlist of 36 songs on the old MM4 now has 81 songs on the new MM4 (windows 11). All of the imported playlists have many many more titles/songs that should not be there.
And even though my old path was E:Music, the new MM4 changed all of the playlists titles to the correct path of C:\Users\Shaka\Documents\MMDB.
Any thoughts on why the import is copying/adding more titles?
I thought I would get MM4 working before upgrading to MM5. I can’t get either one working on Windows 11.
Thanks
