Any exceptions raised during sync? Please post a debug log if you have one. Any strange characters in the titles or file names?

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
In iTunes use Ctl+I to get information on a pair of duplicates and see what location they are stored by looking at the "Where:" section at the bottom of the Summary tab. Are the duplicates at the same location?swish33 wrote:I am having trouble with duplicates being created. I've read through most of this thread but may have missed it.
Using Mediamonkey 4.0.0.1459, iTunes 10.5.1.42, iTunes plugin 4.0.3.2078.
When I sync playlists to iTunes from MM, it creates duplicates in the original folders of the songs, such that I will have something like "Eagles - Hotel California.mp3" and "Eagles - Hotel California (2).mp3". The plugin settings have the MMiTunescache directory separate from the location of my music. It seems to be creating the temp files in that directory as well as making duplicates in the songs' folders.
Any idea what could be wrong? Thank you very much.
Also, what is your Cache Path set to?
Finally, install build 2154 as this has a bit better logging and reporting to help find problems like this.

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
Have a look in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MediaMonkey\Device\d_itunes4.dll on xxxxxxx. for the "exceptionPath" entry - the entry can be changed to any path that you care.lindholm wrote:Started a sync of ~2600 files. When I came back I saw this error:
The only problem is that by default, since MM4 is installed with administrator powers, MM4 (as I) don't have write access to this directoryThere were 2 exceptions logged. For more information please check C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMoneky4\Plugins\d_itunes4-exception.log
How about using the temp directory instead?
George
This will be fixed in the next release.

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
There are no exceptions in the log. I'm hesitant to install MM Debug over MM4 since I finally got MM4 working the way I like.markstuartwalker wrote:Any exceptions raised during sync? Please post a debug log if you have one. Any strange characters in the titles or file names?
I'm not sure what characters are strange and what characters are normal, but after you asked this I did a run on one of the playlists and think you may be onto something. One title on the failed items has a "?", two artists have "." in their name and one album has "..." in the title. That accounts for all four items that failed on this particular playlist.
UPDATED TO ADD FOR CLARITY: These characters do not appear in the file names, only in the tags.

You don't have to install the debug version of MM. You just need to install DebugView to capture the output from the plugin.
Make sure you have version 2154 too.

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
I love how the new version of the plugin gives you a pop up warning if there's a processing exception! Good stuff.
Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
On my desktop pc (called frietje) I had all the music files. Since this is an old computer I copied all the files to my new laptop called "frietje-laptop".markstuartwalker wrote:When did you rename your pc from "frietje" to "frietje-laptop"?frietje wrote:I think the Access Violation Error is causing all the trouble. Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
The plugin references by a string that includes the machine name. This is to accommodate NAS users with a single db though its never been used in anger.
You are best deleting all the device instances be using the "delete all d_itunes4 instances in the DEVICES table" in the advanced recovery options. Restart mm afterwards.
This will lose the auto-sync details.

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
Hi Mark,
Do you have a recommendation for or against, for setting up my iPhone to sync with iTunes wirelessly? If this is ok and doesn't cause some other sync'ing issue, it would be one less step to do (plug in the phone).
Thanks!

iTunes wireless sync works fine. No special settings. I use it already.steveg_nh wrote:Hi Mark,

Re: MediaMonkey iTunes plugin (d_itunes4.dll)
I've isolated the problem (certain files not being sent to iTunes with the error "not compatible with the device") to being limited to files with punctuation in the "Artist(s)," "Album Artist(s)" or "Album" fields. The same punctuation in the "Title" field does not cause a problem.markstuartwalker wrote:You don't have to install the debug version of MM. So far:
. (period)
& (ampersand)
Files that are failing now worked fine under previous versions of the plugin under MM3. Removing the character from the field results in the file synching fine. The files can be added manually to my iTunes library as is.

@frankz
I have a suspicion of the problem but cannot reproduce it. Delphi has some unusual restrictions on what characters it will allow in file paths. Some are technically valid in Windows but considered invalid in Unix e.g. & and /.
* What have you got set for the Cache Path?
* Do you have a custom field set for the format of the filename in the cache? Try setting it to just <id>.
* Do you have your media (in MM) stored in a file structure where the Artist,Album etc contains punctuation in the path?
* Is your media stored on local disk or a NAS?

No. Most of my files are artist - title.mp3, some are trackno - title.mp3. Some titles do contain punctuation (mainly apostrophe like "She's Leaving Home"), but the presence in the file name does not create the problem. It's only a problem in the tags, and only specifically in the Artist, Album Artist or Album Name tags. Plenty of files with apostrophe in the "Title" tag sync fine.markstuartwalker wrote: * Do you have your media (in MM) stored in a file structure where the Artist,Album etc contains punctuation in the path?
Local disk.markstuartwalker wrote: * Is your media stored on local disk or a NAS?
